I'd always heard the E's were the first that would accept "modern" blades, but the head on the D's I've seen looked like it shouldn't be an issue.

Does the D take a standard blade?

The Type D absolutely accepts any modern injector blade. As far as I know, injector blades have never changed (or at least not much), and any modern versions will fit any model of Injector razor as well as the Type A, B , and C repeating razors.
