What's new

My Guess... 3017

I used up the last of the QCS Cubano Breeze this morning. I really like QCS soaps and this new scent grew on me through the month. It won't be my favorite but I might order it again to pad an order to get free shipping.
I had interrupted my Strop Shoppe Lemon Eucalyptus to use the PIF'ed Cubano Breeze. I am picking up with that where I left off tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be the Safari puck's last day (accelerated demise due to a tragic grating error...), but it has been a great one. In keeping with my Big Company/Artisan alternations, I'm going to use the shave stick buffet to get to October 1, then take up brianw's SCS Pumpkin challenge.

Finished my Catie's Bubbles LPV sample today. The soap performed very well. I'll definitely put Catie's Bubbles on my short list in the future, but I did definitely experience some sensitivity to the fragrance. I liked the scent a lot otherwise. Next on the list is:

I am really enjoying this 3017 experience. Using the same soap for a number of weeks in a row really allows a person to fully explore the capabilities of a soap. I've always liked Mikes but am really getting into it now that I am a week or 2 into a tin of barbershop. I have been trying different brushes and I'm sure you old vets have known this for a long time, but I am amazed at how much of a difference the brush makes with these soaps and how each soaps qualities pair to a particular brush. The previous soap I used was B&M, and my SOC boar was the perfect match. This time around the SOC is ok with Mikes, but I have a B&B essential boar that works better.

Good times. Cheers!

Dialed in Panna Crema Lavandatto. I swear it smells like lemon cream; delectable! I pulled out my Omega Pro 49, which sits beside my $300+ Chubby 2 2-Band. Comical how well that brush performed considering it's price. I had an outstanding lather ;)

I have to say that I am enjoting the last remnants of my Klar Kabinett. Not sure exactly why, but that powdery rose scent as I face lather just kickstarts my day. :thumbup1:

Late to the Speicktember party, but I'll be using the Speick stick for the rest of the month rather than swapping around with Tabac, Palmolove, and La Toja.

Come October 1, it's all Punkin all the time!

Plugging away with my Vitos and it is getting closer to the bottom of my dish. Amazingly good lather and shaves from this soap with no effort or issues.

Still a couple weeks left in the dish, then I plan on using RR Mudder....unless the RazoRocktober soap is pumpin, in which case I'd use that to double dip on the October celebrations.

No pumpkin in my den right now but it's one I wouldn't mind using.

I'm also 3017'ing Mike's. I'm 9 shaves in, and haven't really noticed a dent in my puck. I keep reading about guys getting thru a Mike's puck in under 30 shaves, which I don't get, unless a bunch of soap magically disappears! I suppose there's not enough hate in my loading!

I know what you mean. I don't see how you could go thru a tin of Mikes in under 30 shaves. I like it too much to waste it I suppose. I view the 3017 process more as a way to spend quality time with a soap and really get to know it (before asking it to marry me?) rather than overloading and pushing through it to get to the next. But I say whatever floats yer boat. Its all good.

Cheers!

Now half as wise
82 shaves and maybe halfway done. Scent is starting to fade a bit as well. Still is a great product, but this one is really going to test my resolve. I am really starting to yearn for something different.

I do have a sample of SCS Punkin that I will use with Brian for the start of October, so maybe that will do the trick.

Breakthrough on the I coloniali. This has been a wonderful product that I will definitely replace in 3017 when I need more product.

After my Klar Kabinett is finished (might be two weeks, might be six with the way my Harris went :tongue_sm), I will be switching over to a puck of modern Williams, with LBussy's "Puckhead" thread to blame. I'm inclined to grate it and the soak it in a 50/50 Aqua Velva / water mix to hydrate that puppy (got the grate'n'soak concept form a post in the WISE group's thread), but I am more than half inclined to use the Veg instead of AV. Thoughts?

At the hospital with our newborn, so I opted to leave the Speick stick at home since I don't have a good way to transport it. Instead opted to bring a small sample of QCS Rose Otto. This is my first foray into QCS soaps, and I am instantly hooked. Of the rose scented soaps I've sniffed, this is by far my favorite. It might even be the soap that coaxes SWMBO into enslaving for her legs. And this stuff gathered instantly. Also stood up well to water, as I have the tendency to over dip my synthetic.

QCS rose otto is one if my favorite scents in shavedom—very mild and relaxing. I also enjoy the scent of Acca Kappa 1869 cream in the tub (the old version—I haven't smelled the new one), for the same reasons.
