I wanted to use the Albanio open comb before October is coming to it's end. I have not used it often before and the razor has not impressed me when I did use it. I remembered it as not able to cut close. Today the Albanio pleasantly surprised me because I did get a good shave.

The Albanio is a very mild open comb razor. Even more mild than the Gillette Tech. But it get it's mildness from a very different geometry. The Tech is a razor with a decent blade gap and very little blade exposure while the Albanio has no blade gap at all(the blade is sandwiched between the top and bottom plate) and decent blade exposure. Quite different in shaving technique but similar when it comes to the end result.

Gillette Autostrop (gold) razor,
1910's Mayd Well brush,
vintage Autostrop blade,
Dr. Harris Arlington shaving soap,
Nivea post shave balm,
Avon Mesmerize cologne.

This razor was made after Gillette acquired the Valet Autostrop company. I bought it several months ago, and never used it till now. It has a beautiful gold finish as opposed to my nickel plated US Army Valet Autostrop razor. I used it tonight because I thought it would be a shame to throw away the vintage blade I used yesterday after only 1 use. I'm glad I did use the blade and newer Autostrop razor. It's a good set-up. A little harder to get a BBS from it though, as my single edge technique is a little lacking. End result-4 pass DFS. Have a good night gentlemen.

Used my new RR Jaws OC for the first time with RR Classic shave cream soap. Eucalyptus/Tea Tree wax.
Razor Review: My Jaws OC reminds me of my Merkur Slant 37C but a little rougher. It was hard to find the shave angle but once I started to leave some "rake" trails, I figured I found it. No weepers or irritation. I worried I would but my alum told me otherwise, but I need to keep practicing. Overall, great weight to the razor. The handle is thin but heavy and tacky. The chrome finish on the head is excellent! Beautiful razor overall. Glad I got an OC shave in especially with it being RR.

OCtober 29th
Shaved for the first time with my Cadet 02S
Bought this on Ebay from the USA, so it's traveled from India to America and then to the UK. It was only just over £20 delivered, which is a good price. I have shaved already this OCtober with a Pearl / RazoRock handle, but I really like the heads on these razors, so I decided to get another. I was having some difficulty finding a vendor that sells these razors in the UK, most seem to be sold out.
I've also put a photo of both razors together. The Pearl has a Razorock handle attached with the original handle beside it.
Great for the money!

I used my FaTip Piccolo on a UFO Kaiser handle today. I got a nice close shave, but I should really have used my Tradere OC, as my face was still a bit tender after my weekend of using milder razors. My Tradere is normally my "go to" razor when I have been over exuberant with other razors.

If nothing else, OCtober has reaffirmed that my face really does not get on with anything less than what I would term a medium aggressive razor, such as the Tradere, the Ikon OC & the New LC.

Hi,

Over the weekend, I found my US New Short Comb in a box of other stuff in a closet we were going through. That explains why I had not seen it since we moved in 2004.....

Shaved with Grandpa's Old Type yesterday as I had skipped Sunday. I always use the Old Type on skip days. But today I used the SC for the first time in almost a decade.

So, that brings my OC total up to four.

The Cadet TTO OC performed well again today. The more I use it, the more I like it. Day 2 for the Personna Med Prep blade and I got a great, comfortable, smooth shave!! I keep forgetting to post a picture of the razor ... maybe I'll remember tonight when I get home.

I do most of my posting from work (hope no one I work with reads this!!).

Decided to use my old workhorse, a common bar handle New LC. Started the shave with a new Voskhod blade but had a lot of tugging. After switching to a Personna the shave became much nicer. Finished with some AV Musk.

This single ring arrived yesterday, a purchase from Nick at www.sportshaving.com , and I am well pleased with it, and the brush he sent me, even though I haven't used the brush yet. It's a very sharp set-up. This is my earliest USA made Gillette. Two passes and some quick touch up=BBS!!!

Little did I know this was a contest! If so, I have shaved exactly 29 times with either a NEW, an old type, or a OCMM, and loved every minute of it. If this was a contest to see who becomes an open comb guy, you are looking at the winner right here!

I will still keep my Gem Pushbutton; it gives me a premium shave as well.

Gillette, Bulldog. It arrived yesterday and I spent last evening cleaning it.

It still needs a final polishing, but it's had it's first use since 1968 (judging from the date code on the blade inside when I opened it). Kills me that I can't find the cord for my camera to document this, so please be satisfied with this picture of a baby duck:

Running out of OCtober, today I tried the Streamy with a new Treet carbon blade (never in modern times had I used a SE other than stainless). Mixed up some Trumpers' Lime SC with the Chief. Great, close shave, though the alum told me I was on the edge .. but BBS for Tuesday ..

That's a tough call, sometimes you want a different shave quality. But, I love my Old Type (102a style head cap), runner up is an early single ring.
