Williams Mug Soap is a tallow based shave soap, one of the longest- and best-selling American shave soaps. Today, Williams is known for being one of the cheapest soaps on the market and for the difficulty some users have with its lather. Various lathering techniques can be found in forum threads. Because Williams is tallow based it can be easily milled but never melted, as melting will damage it.

Scent
Most users distinctly note the scent of citronella on top of a soapy smelling base, especially from a new puck. As the pucks sit around they tend to lose their scent, and most vintage pucks have no appreciable scent remaining.
When queried about the actual fragrance that goes into Williams, Combe Inc. would not specifically answer, but they did provide this information on Williams' fragrance notes. [1]
