Thayer's didn't do much for me. I found it no better than scented water. I also tried Thayer's "superhazel", but that was like acid on my face.
I've been using Dickinson's witch hazel after shaving my face (or buzzing my head) for years. I want/need something with alcohol on my face after shaving and gin is too expensive. I liberally splash witch hazel on after shaving and let dry before the aftershave. If it's late in the day, a second splash instead of AS. I use Dickinson's blue label because my grocery carries it, although I notice no difference between blue and yellow labels. When on vacation, I'll pick up Kroger or other generic. It's also the first thing I try for skin irritations: itching, insect bites, etc, before resorting to something else. For members with piles, using witch hazel on a cotton round to clean the area after a dump may help prevent flair-ups and soreness, since it's the main ingredient in OTC gels. It's been helping me avoid doctor-recommended surgery & flare-ups for 15 years.
