I have a Vulfix #374 Super Badger that is excellent. Some do remark that the Vulfix Super Badgers are on the floppy side. However, it is perfectly capable of building excellent lather with soaps and creams, in the bowl or directly on the face. It's a comfortable brush and a good all round performer.

Welcome!

There is no single best answer, but you will get a lot of suggestions. My own is to consider a boar brush: for $50 you could get two or three good boars. If you click on the 'wiki' link in my signature, you can see the four brushes that I use. Three are boar, one is badger. Each gets equal time in my rotation.

IMO the differences are not very many, to me they appear to be fine brushes all of them, so my advice would be, take the one you prefere looking at.

I myself have - among others - an Edwin Jagger best badger that works very fine with both soaps and creams.

If those are your choices then I would choose the E&J, only for its looks. Though I've heard they perform quite well. For me it all depends on my preference: facelather, bowl, smaller/bigger, etc...

I like a small brush, so for the money I would go for one of the following:

Simpsons Case: $50
Simpsons Wee Scot: $35
Rooney 1/1 Best: $55

I would probably suggest the Jagger. It is a very good brush. it is well made. It can handle soap or cream. It does feel a little scratchy on the face sometimes.

Vulfix Super either the 374 or 2234 depending on which style handle you liked better. Solid performers, excellent quality knots for the price.

I highly recommend starting with a good boar brush, especially if you're looking for something that isn't "floppy".

Also, if you're looking for an affordable badger brush check out this eBay seller's store. I purchased a Silvertip badger brush when I first started out for $15 shipped to Canada. It looked very similar in style to that $42.95 brush at Fendrihan with the faux ivory, unbranded handle.

By the way, I'm not affiliated with any of the companies mentioned above.
