A stewardess on a United flight, December, 1960, gave 14-year-old me (and every other man on board) a Gillette 195 adjustable razor a.k.a. Fatboy. I taught myself how to shave (ouch). My father used a Schick injectable.
I travelled around the world with my razor, until lost it, early 80s. I moved uncomfortably to stupid blue Bics, then Mach 3. Never thought about my Fatboy, really. I did continue using my badger brush and good shaving soap during the Dark Years. I remember when Wilkinson blades did seem to be threatening Gillette's near-monolopy; makes sense that this is when Gillette started to grasp at straws and to produce those nasty Tracs, carts, etc.
Then I retired and realized I hated my shaving routine. Memory, eBay, and B&B brought me back: a nice Fatboy F-4, Astra SP blades, 20 soaps and creams, 12 aftershaves and balms. I even got my original Floris brush from 1970 rebadgered by Larry at WD, so I am set.
