Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a lovely morning! This morning I am drinking 6-cups of Bones AODC, in my 30-oz Yeti tumbler. A nice chocolaty caffeinated start of the day! :cuppa:

The beginning of the month, I ordered a Fellow Stagg EKG gen1 kettle, and it finally arrived. Its a real nice unit folks, feels good in the hand, looks good, and it heats up 30-oz of water fast, perfect for my Yeti, when I'm not doing a drip brew.

Yes, I know I had the lid on wrong, I rotated it after I took the picture. 👀

And thats not all either! I also ordered the LTT Ratcheting Multi-Bit Screwdriver. Holds 12-bits inside the bit storage locker, smooth handle, ratcheting selector switch, great knurling on the shaft, magnet in shaft to hold the bit in use, ratcheting mechanism smooth like butta. This is a great tool for doing electronics work, or odd-jobs around the home.

Good morning, coffee crew.

Mad Priest Sloth Dispelling. French press. Black.

It's 35° in Music City right now with a high around 53° today. Partly cloudy with no rain expected. I got home later than normal last night from the studio as we watched the 49ers/Rams game which was a disaster. Maybe 5 hours of sleep. Just going to relax at home today. I have a 5:30-8:30 pm session later. That's about it.

Have a blessed Friday, my friends.

Today, for the first time since last sunday, the Major came directly downstairs when he awakened. No waiting until midday, certainly no spending all day recuperating in bed.

Of course, such a momentous step in healing from multiple injuries to both his left limbs calls for a celebration. Or, at the very least, A celebratory cup of Volcanica Kenya AA in the Keurig. Black, again, as G-d intended it.

The Major hopes everybody had a good day, leading into an even better weekend.

Peace, love, & Star Trek,
-MO

Good morning, coffee crew.

Eight O'Clock Original. French press. Black.

It's 40° in Music City right now with a high around 59° today. It looks like we're in for some rain throughout the afternoon into the evening. About 7 hours of solid sleep last night. I've been using my Fluticasone nasal spray the last couple days and it is really helping with sinus issues. We had a great session at my studio yesterday. I got home in time to catch the final episode of Blue Bloods. Looking forward to a peaceful Saturday ahead.

Have a blessed one, friends.

Today's beans were Blacksmith Coffee Roastery (Lindsborg, Kansas) - Guatemala Finca La Hermosa.

I tried modifying Lance Hedrick Bloom Recipe for my original AeroPress by swapping in the Gabi Dripmaster B for the bloom pour but it was so gentle in the dripping that there was not enough agitation/extraction. The coffee was too weak to drink.

I then switched to the Varia FLO dripper with optional 'Slow 2' screen, and Kalita 185 filter using the Coffee Chronicler advanced brew method with Gabi DripMaster B recipe. That combination has good promise. I need to grind a little finer, but the brew was tastey.

This afternoon I received my Hario Drip Assist combo set, so I tried it out with some Methodical Coffee Late Night. This first cup isn’t perfect, but it shows promise and proves that I’ve been agitating the coffee too much with my overly aggressive pours. I’ll need to grind finer next time as I’ve been grinding quite coarse to balance out my too-fast pours.

Hi Rudy, nice setup!

I recommend you get a Fellow Stagg EKG Kettle. It pours so slowly and smoothly, I just can't see how you'd cause crazy agitation using it.

I think he grabbed an Oxo on sale at the Jungle Site. It's on the what did you learn from your coffee brew method thread

I was going to mention this, but didn't realise you would have your drip assist so fast. From my experience, you really need to push the grind finer, not baby steps. You know this stuff, but I will repeat it anyway: if you know your desired brew time and you ground too fine, you can stop pouring early and bypass your remaining water. It works perfectly even done on purpose!

Yes I’ll have the Oxo at Christmas to try out. From what the others are saying it should be a nice improvement over my current Bonavita. Im not sure how it will compare to the Fellow, but I make enough Clever and French press coffee that I don’t want to be limited to slow pours all the time.

Thanks! I do know that, but didn’t think of it. I’m glad you reminded me as I’m sure I’d waste some nice coffee as I try and dial everything in.

Great thread! We just got back from a couple of weeks in Vietnam (my wife and her side of the family are Vietnamese) and have been tooling around with a phin from Nguyen Coffee Supply since we got back. Beans are their Hanoi blend.

I've been geeking out on good coffee for a few years and using a phin + robusta beans wasn't even on my radar prior to this trip. The coffee in Vietnam (especially Hanoi) was some of the best I've ever had, and I just assumed it was from French press. The phin is similar (but better) and even easier to use than a Mocca Technivorm drip brewer. Good stuff.
