What's new

What does it mean to be "Finest"

I can't be of any help, but I was wondering the same thing for the first time today.
As for the new logo design, I ask, WHY?
Can't say I dig it one bit..

It doesn't seem like anyone has an answer for you but I would like to see photo examples of the differences.

You can just see it in the photo below. It's the second brush from the left. Compare to the next two to its right.

I'm tied up tonight but will post a better one tomorrow.

Indeed a wonderful collection. I did some research and I found nothing. I think an email to Rooney customer service/PR might be an option.

It would be if any of us knew how to contact Rooney. At this point they are the International Brush Firm of Mystery.

Upon further research: It appears they have relocated and left no forwarding address and have a policy of avoiding customer contact.

The brush at standing second from left has a smaller label and also a bulbier not than the other three. I'm wondering if this difference might have any significance in relation to dating some Rooney brushes. Again, all four of these brushes are labeled Finest.

I'd bet the one in the middle is older. Nice brushes!

They're all amazing. The old Finest hair is fascinating stuff. The hair in 1, 3, & 4 is virtually indistinguishable by me just based on appearance. The second one's hair has slightly different coloration.

I'm not asking because I think it matters. Just curious. I wish there were more information available regarding the old Finest knots.

I probably should have posted this into the Finest thread just to keep discussion in one place.

Ken, I have no answer to your question either..... but I just have to say that you have the most impressive collection of Rooney's. I've been fortunate enough to add a couple Rooney Heritage Two Bands to my collection this year..... but I can only hope to be in the right place at the right time to land a Rooney Finest.

I don't notice any coming up much any more. But I'm also not looking. I think Texaninkc recently sold his Stubby 1.

I remember awhile back there was talk on B&B when Rooney switched from a more curve, script-like printing to a blockier one. If that's what you're talking about, digging around on the forums would give you an answer. I wanna say it was 2009 or early 2010, but I really can't say I remember for certain. I wasn't too fond of Rooney's back then.

Does anyone know when Rooney made the change from smaller, block print lettering of the name to the larger block lettering they used until until switching to the style currently in use?

I think I have eight Rooney Old Style and/or Heritage brushes with the Rooney label in block letter. Four of those have Finest knots: three of Style 1, Size 2s and one Style 1, Size 1. Of the eight, all have letting of the same size except one of the Style 1, Size 2 brushes with a Finest knot. It has significantly smaller, more compressed letting, and also differs from the other two Style 1, Size 2 Finest brushes in that it has a more bulb shaped knot.

I never noticed the difference until a day or two ago.

I don't have an answer for you. I bought my first Finest off of the BST back in 2010 and the black handled one when Classic Shaving did their first "found in the warehouse sale". they both have the larger block lettering. And yes the hair on them has a distinctive honey amber coloring to it.

I also have a Rooney that is even more rare than your Pooney as it has no name on it at all. It is my beloved large "Leopard" that I bought from Classic Shaving at the same time that I bought the small "leopard".

These pictures that I had on hand do a pretty good job of showing that coloring of the Finest on the right as compared to the three banded Leopards and the 1XL two banded.
