What are Personna Med Preps like ?

I`m just asking because I used Personna blues in Kokomo, Indiana and from memory they were fine at first - facial stropping - but got smoother after the first shave and lasted well too.

Are the med preps the same or rougher and is there any difference between the newer Accuthrives and the old Personnas ?

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

They were quite dear imported from Razor Blades Club in Holland after a two week delay - £62 for 50 blades - I hope they last and don`t go blunt in 2 secs haha !

In Egypt I saw the locals sharpen blunt razor blades on their jeans - of course it works - some have no choice - poor sods, course I tried it - emergency stop-gap.

Years ago I had a vintage - 20`s - 30`s ? bright green uranium glass razor honing plate - never used it - just as an ashtray - got pinched probably because it was pretty; I may well get another one `cos I love vintage uncoated carbons.

They are excellent blades. In the top tier of sharpness (but below Feather). They are also smooth and comfortable. After the first shave, they smooth out and last longer than average (7+ shaves for many people).

You can get the same performance for much less money by getting the "Comfort Coated" Personna brand blades made in Virginia by AccuTec. These cost $14-18 dollars per 100 blades, depending on where you shop. They appear to be the same blade, or very close to the same.

Personna can be a confusing brand. This specific type of packaging is the one I'd suggest:

Thanks a million for the comprehensive, instantaneous, illuminating reply NorthernSoul.

Loved going Stateside doing hi-fi sales exhibitions - usually only stayed 3-4 days on biz - not long enough to doing anything out of work really but did stay in Kokomo, Indy with friends for months - which I loved; got many friends there and in Canada.

You are so lucky in the States - it`s rip off Britain and the taxman and customs man are highway robbers - just like there - but worse !

It used to be better not so many years ago. Our corporations now effectively own the government and both corporations and governments have become adept at shifting costs onto the consumer. Our middle class no longer sees their income increase as the economy becomes larger with higher productivity. I thought the idea was supposed to be that everyone benefited as the economy grew?

Great blade. Sharp but not too sharp, comfortable and forgiving. Get some.
Thank you Quaznoid found them on the U.S. Amazon site for about $35 all inc - I`ll order them next week.

Now I`ve got fab soap and razors and Arabian colognes - bought in the last couple of weeks I am loving shaving and it`s not a chore anymore.

Even the dragon has noticed I`m getting more domesticated - it`s a step in the right direction anyway.

Better late than never and a bit of something is better than all of nothing !

I used them daily in the early 2000’s. But then I discovered the Lord family of blades: excellent performance for a lot less $. I can get Lords for less than 1/2 the price. Let me suggest that you go that way.

Oh goodness Quaznoid I love Lords to death - What amazing memories.

I`ve lived in Cairo, Hurghada and Alexandria - also Me and Mum were fellows of the Manchester Museum Egyptology Department in NW England which has 16 mummies and loads of ancient artifacts we handled personally in the basement.

We were good friends with Professor Rosalind David from Hull University who pioneered facial construction techniques with clay and pegs in the mid seventies.

The paddle-steamer river cruises on the Nile to Sudan were unforgettable - mind blowing.

So living there I bought loads of Lords - got a load of Lord Rainbows last year that were going for a song - not the top ones but acceptable for me.

Usually I got Racers, Sharks, Cool and Classics but if pushed any of the range sufficed.

Loved Cleopatra cigarettes and Egyptian super strength 9% vol lager plus being a party animal I drank a lot of vodka in the desert - Happy Daze !

Sounds like wonderful times.

Stick with the Lords. I don’t they can be beat.

It`s tragic that the working middle class has been decimated especially in America and Europe - they were the backbone of the Country - I hate globalism NorthernSoul - it`s ponzi schemes and fiat currencies with the Frankfurt School doing PC and Adam Smith and John Maynard Keynes delivering the coup de Grace - it`s so tragic.
I`ve been to the war torn M.E. from 17 onwards so I know the direct consequences - truly heartbreaking.
You've tossed us quite a salad of economists, ideas and consequences. Thanks. You might want to bone up a little on economic theory and practice. Adam Smith points out the fundamentals of the nature of human interaction and behavior, motivations, etc. John Stuart Mill is great on that, too. Nobel Prize winning economist Milton Friedman expands on that to promote free enterprise and limits to government. He is the opposite bookend to J. M.Keynes, whose ideas cause all of us much suffering, whether we realize it or not.
