What's new

What am I missing about Wald?

Why are you subscribed to a luxury brand brush makers newsletter if you have zero interest in them, with the exception of mocking them for their price model?
Did you read question, do you know answer?

What is it you get for 549.00 Euro? What is so spacial about this offering.

The Wald Product is a Very Elegant Handle the same material many other CUSTOM BRUSH MAKE use, the Walds are functional ART.

I know difference between Porsche & Bugatti, besides country of origin.

Well I think the answer is found (at least partially) in the newsletter. "There is another detail that is new: the tips are not treated. For me, there is just something about letting the qualities of the hair shine only through extremely thorough sorting rather than chemical treatment in order to achieve an acceptable face feel. This is very time consuming, but this way I can make sure to not only offer a carefully crafted unique knot, but also maximize the long term value of the brush."

What you get for the €549 is a bank overdraft and a very nice silvertip shaving brush. What were you expecting the answer to be?

I think he bicycles to Northeastern China with a bag to hold hair, a few pairs of tweezers, and a jeweler’s loupe to hand select and extract only the finest badger bristles for his knots.
That’s mostly right, but you missed the part where he camps in the forest for months in the remote mountains of China, following badgers around and waiting for just the right hair to fall out, so that no distress is inflicted on the badgers and the hair is completely relaxed when it falls out naturally. Apparently the badgers find the German with the tweezers and loupe tip-toeing around them quite entertaining.

It’s painstaking work, for sure. But I can totally feel the difference when I lather.

When I bought my first Petros guitar it was around $3500 with an installed Sunrise pickup. The second one was over $7000. The base price now days is $10K. I have no idea what it would cost to get all the mother of pearl inlays mine have.

For shaving brushes, my limit seems to be SV prices or a custom handled Rudy Vey brush. That said, if someone tires of their Wald brush, I’d gladly take it off their hands. <eg>

Well being perfectly honest, the question was what do you get for $549.00 Euro’s. Maybe I should have asked for simple explanation of what it is that is so special about Wald Shave Brushes to justify this price. Should not be difficult to articulate simple laymen’s reply, lay people can understand.

Do not know, have not seen, in person or on U-Tube a person constructing a shaving Knot, so I do not know that is involved in the process, and how long it takes.

The Wald Brush Handles are functional art, that hold hairs. Never even in my life have I seen & toughed a Shave Brush with retail of above $30.00.

In my profession I use 35mm Cameras & Lenses, I bought the Pro Models, Best Camera Body's & Lenses, as I understand they would work long time, be dependable, and have resale value if in good condition. I beat equipment hard, some time in horrible weather.

Buddy was Stock Photographer, he did not need the Pro level stuff, as he worked close to his vehicle, used low end cameras that did not take much abuse, if one broke it got trashed, and he always had a few spare in boxes ready to go. My buddy here beat his equipment hard, or work in fires, storms, super cold weather, out at sea. So his price point stuff work good for him.

I love my Canon 1DX 2. What a great camera. I’ll probably change over to a mirror less at some point, but the costs are staggering.
