tried the reformulated mitchell's wool fat

I never had a problem lathering tallow based MWF, as I also soaked the puck in hot water for about a min, and added water when necessary. The reason I stopped using it, was because it has a bad problem when crumbling when the puck gets down to a certain size. I can buy Arko for a cheaper price and it fits almost perfect in my Old Spice mug. As of late, it seemed to be harder to get here in US, unless you ordered it from Amazon. I was not aware they reformulated it. I also use Cella soap occasionally, and it lathers very easy in a bowl.

I'm not restocking. I didn't bother. I moved on. it's just soap and there is a lot out there. I settled on Shannon's Soaps shaving soaps with the Chupacabra base. This is also tallow + lanolin, but with other good things and I have to say it actually edges out MWF tallow for me and I didn't think that possible.
Like Shannon's too.

...lathering tallow based MWF...

Issue:
...The reason I stopped using it, was because it has a bad problem when crumbling when the puck gets down to a certain size...

Cause of this issue:
...I also soaked the puck in hot water for about a min, and added water when necessary...

Solution:
Don't soak tallow MWF. In my experience, there is no need to soak it. I say that after using (and enjoying) seven pucks.

I soaked my MWF. I always do that. No, it's not necessary, but it makes life a whole lot easier. When I'm done, I simply seal it up real good and it's good to go for my next shave even if that several months away.
