What's new

Tony Romo

The problem with the Cowboys is Jerry Jones. Until he gets out of his own way and hires people that can and are able to do their jobs, without being controlled by Jerry, the team will be mediocre. A record of 135 and 135 with one playoff win since 97 tells you everything you need to know about them.
Hard to argue with this.

I'm not a Cowboys fan or even a Romo fan. That being said, the Cowboy's defense is VERY terrible and Romo and the offense have put themselves in the position to win games this season. Jerry Jones is the biggest tool of an owner ever! He can build a superb stadium, though.

Agreed. Two years ago, Dallas and the Giants, last game of the year. The winner goes to the playoffs. In the fourth quarter, Romo had receivers wide open in the end zone, twice, and missed twice. Romo is a skilled quarterback, but not a winner.

Jerry Jones only won after Jimmy Johnson robbed the Vikings for Herschel Walker. Jones is the other problem. Perhaps without Jones, the Cowboys might have had a coach who could raise Romo up.

I edited Cowboys' books in the mid-eighties. Danny White was a better quarterback than Romo.

Glad I live in Seattle now. Go 'Hawks!

Yes!
Romo is a good QB. But to be great, you have to be clutch. Elway, Montana, Brady, and even Aikman were all clutch when the game was on the line. Romo? Be honest, is he the QB you want leading your team down by 4 points with 90 seconds left in the game?
I didn't think so.

No way! No way was Danny White a better QB than Romo. I haven't looked a the numbers but I suspect Romo's numbers will be better. I recall Danny White doing some punting so maybe he could edge Romo in that department:)

Jerry should take a good hard look at how Al Davis ruined the Raiders. Good owners hire good people and let them do their jobs.

Many longtime fans (including myself) have been saying this for years.

Danny was a winner. Romo is not. The only reason White never got them to the Super Bowl was the defense.

I dunno, I remember the Danny White days and he seemed to have a glazed look in his eyes like he was terrified. Then again, that was a long time ago so my memory may not be as accurate as I'd like it to be:)

Here's the conundrum. In Jerry's mind he's doing everything fine. I'm convinced he cares about money, prestige and relevancy more than he does about winning super bowls. The Cowboys have been mediocre for a decade plus, yet they are always talked about, fill the stadium and has Jerry front and center for the press and media. No point in changing it until people stop showing up to pay for his new arena.

It reminds me of the Chicago cubs. Whether they win or lose, that place is always packed.

If it ain't broke...

Which is sad because the fans in Dallas and Chicago deserve better.

Remember the footage of "the catch" that sent the 49ers to their first Superbowl? I think that game was against the Danny White Cowboys. Anyway, I'm a Packers fan, so thank you Dallas for a great weekend! :001_cool:

The Loins loss was nice cap to the weekend for us Cheeseheads also. :biggrin1:

The Dwight Clark catch? If that's the one yes I remember it. I'm a Saints fan so I approved of the product Dallas put on the field this year as well:)

Exactly. White drove the Cowboys down the field at the end of the game for a touchdown to take the lead. But Montana drove the Niners back for "The Catch." White could have not played any better. Everson Walls could have.

As a long-time Giants fan who was raised in Wisconsin and reside in north Texas I can say that last weekend's meltdown was nearly as great as winning the SB. With that out of the way I must admit that I would like to cut Romo some slack because the defense is just terrible. I can't. Yes, the defense is horrible. Yes, the play calling is questionable. Yes, the INTs were a combination of misreads by the WR and poor throws by Romo. All that considered....Romo is the QB and he is paid to make the correct reads with proper execution. Romo has a rich history of performing well until crunch time. Perhaps he feels the pressure to carry the team and it leads him to take too many risks?

Whatever the case, I absolutely love the current status of the Cowboys. From ownership on down to the field, the team is a wreck. And I could not be happier. Heck the Giants' season was gone weeks ago....gotta have a reason to watch the games.

I have a question for you, are the Giants looking at the big R? Are they done now? It seems the Steelers found themselves there all the sudden can the same be said of the Giants?

They are done. Word is Coughlin is done at the end of the season. Can't blame him. Jerry R. has his work cut out this off-season.

Football is a team sport and teams win games and championships, not quarterbacks. The quarterback is the most important player on the team, but a great quarterback can't take over the game and win it by himself. As the famous philosopher Gisele Bundchen once said, in regards to her husband, quarterback Thomas Brady, "My husband cannot both @#$% throw the ball and catch the ball."

As a quarterback and as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo is always going to get more blame than he deserves. As others pointed out, Romo wasn't responsible for the 34 second half points that Matt Flynn and the Packers scored on Dallas. The Cowboys scored 36 points.

If the Giants fire Coughlin they're total idiots. How many coaches in the NFL have won multiple Super Bowls? Belichick (10 years ago), Shanahan (14 years ago), Coughlin (two in the past six years).

The Giants have a bizarre drafting strategy where they draft the highest player on the board and not by need. That worked out for a while, but it's killing them now.
