What's more expensive, painting or razors?
Serious question!
Well, the easel was a couple hundred dollars... She has hundreds of dollars invested in brushes... bought a $400 tool drawer chest to house all her paints and misc. stuff (She did get the rolling tool chest on sale and did some more bargaining... so it wasn't actually $400).... She just bought $400 worth of oil paints to go along with her other paints..... Canvases aren't cheap....

But I've bought a steady stream of semi high-end razors and brushes.. so I would guess I've spent more...

I'm slowing down, though.... she's speeding up... and the paint is always expensive and have to be replenished.. or new colors added... We'll see in 5 years if she's ahead of me...

It can be expensive if you let it. I do not bother with the most expensive paints because I'm not getting any return on my work. You can find really good stuff for good prices. Same with brushes. There's plenty of good serviceable brushes that work very well. You just have to find them. I generally go with mid range brushes, paints etc. Michael's for art supplies is very well priced. I have also found decent art supplies at Winners/Marshalls. As to canvas, paper etc. When you're doing watercolours, for example, you do want a good quality paper that's intended for watercolours. Also the WC paints can be a bit finicky so you want decent quality again. I also don't buy the most expensive paint, brushes etc because like razors they can only accomplish so much. A good, close, comfortable shave with a $100 razor is not going to improve much, if at all, with a $1000 razor. So if you think really expensive paints, brushes etc make you a better artist...fine. I've watched really good artists using brushes that, through time, look like something you'd throw out. I use wall painting brushes in certain instances so it gets to be personal.
As to more costly...over time art will cost me more in an accumulative aspect. But for you Larry, I'd say that razors would be more expensive because you're more active and constantly adding and subtracting from your collection.

Well I finished off the Tatra blades the other day. I used my Dart re-issue razor. This was a very close and somewhat "tuggy" or resisting shave. I still got a close, smooth result but the alum sting was really pronounced. Hmm. So yesterdays shave was with a new wizamet and the same Dart. Better in that, I like Wizamet blades and the alum was less pronounced, but I'm now curious as to how the dart will perform with other blades as well. So in going forward, I'll be doing an informal examination with blades that have a few shaves on them and new blades right out of the wrapper to determine what, if any, blades are best suited and how many shaves on a blade are ok before either using a different razor or a new blade. I'll still be taking my blades to 10 before binning so I should be able to figure out this razors best performance parameters. Should be exciting! Cheers!

So my TRC razor landed yesterday and I took it on its maiden voyage this morning. Good solid weight to it, well balanced, nicely manufactured and finished. Good price point too. I used my Wizamet blade on it5's 2nd outing, an AP synth with my Junichi lather bowl and Proraso Green in the tube. Proraso really lathers up easily and well. What can I say? The razor shaved me very well, 3 passes and some touch up. That was it. Nothing earth shattering or "Holy crap whatta shave" just a really good razor giving me a really good shave. Which is kinda what I wanted. Besides I like the looks. Cheers!

That's awesome Don, glad you like it!
It's like you say, not "Earth shattering" but a very well built good razor at a great price.
I can definitely categorize it at a level that exceeds other razors that cost twice as much.
It's good enough though that I'd be able to live with only that razor if need be (even though that'd be really boring!)
I had no idea you finally ordered one since they had that postal strike issue in Canada.
Glad you got it!

Don, did you watch the 49ers /Rams game last night? 😐
They shipped it through UPS so the strike didn't affect it.
And yes I watched the game, such as it was. Defence played well but offence was disappointing. And the DLine guy who said he didn't want to play ...what was up with that? I can think of other ways to retire from football without letting the entire team down.
