The "Burn" or the "Chill" ?

I'm 20 years old and still have some problems with my skin. In Holland (where I live) they'd probably call it a "bad skin".. :p I was told to never use alcohol-based AS because it dries out the skin. That's why I use balms for Sensitive Skin. It doesn't Burn nor Chill my skin, so I'll be on the looking for both and see what happens :) Maybe I'll try Proraso in the near future.

I LOVE the alcohol burn after my shave. But about 20 minutes later, when my skin settles down, I break out the Lubriderm and end up soft and smooth. I always need to moisturize after the fact, whether I use a balm or an AS so I just use a splash and don't end up greasy.

If I had to pick between hot and cold, I'd pick the cool of aqua velva over the burn of old spice, but in practice, I use 100% aloe gel. It'll sting a tad if I've mucked my shave, but usually just leaves my skin well conditioned. This is one of those YMMV areas, and it sounds like my mileage varied. :001_smile

For years, I was a balm guy because of having "sensitive skin"-however,after coming to this site and larnin' bout alcohol based splashes, I have come to love them also. In fact, regular shaves get the splash and go. special shaves get both!

Before joining this site, I used a balm for years, thinking the alcohol splashes were bad for my skin. Since joining this site, I've used the balm only a few times.

Lately I prefer the Aqua Velva and Proraso splashes almost exclusively. I like the cool down effect from both of these, if it has been a good shave, there is hardly any burn when I apply them.

:velva2::velva2::velva2:

Amen to that...especially the Proraso stuff. I know guys say Musgo lasts all day. I think Proraso AS splash lasts longer truthfully.

This stuff rocks and has an amazing menthol kick!
