The Body Shop Maca Root

This thread has caused me to re-visit the cream two days in a row now...I have no issues at all with the lather...oodles of the good stuff in a very short time...I still can't get used to the smell though...I've tried! I wish they had another cream, I'd grab a tub without hesitation.

I tried it from the Australian Traveling box of Goodies in Round 1 and it was impressive. I didn't it would be that good. The scent was nice and the lather was perfect! Good to know that it works well!

Love this stuff! It and Bigelow were the first 2 good soaps/creams I bought, turns out I'm not a huge menthol fan. This stuff smells,to me anyway, like clean linens from the dryer!

I recently went on vacation and grabbed my last can of travel size Edge goo thinking I could tough it out and use it up on vacation... One shave, can in can, and me dragging the wife to a mall telling her she can buy whatever she wants but I need my maca root cream!

The cream itself is ok, but what a rip off the pre shave oil is. Does nothing apart from burn a hole in the wallet.

...

The rest of their mens range is good too, the Maca Root Razor Relief and Face Wash are definitely worth trying.

I completely agree. I've heard good things about the cream so I expected it to be decent at the least, but I never expected the AS to be very good; it is in fact fast be coming a favorite. Something about it makes my face feel fantastic.

I have been looking at this stuff for a while and TBH it would have to be pretty damn good. By good I mean better than TOBS, CRS or Proraso as I can get those for about the same price for a bigger quantity. Whilst I don't mind paying for quality, I have to ask myself if it is that much better quality. One thing I will say in favour of the Bodyshop is that their synthetic Brush is superb, easily my favourite brush and it only cost £5.50.

How does the Maca Root compare to TBS's Original Formula, in the beige tub?

I have a jar and a half of their Original Formula, and it is one of my favorite creams ... I get blown away every time by how great a shave it gives me. I'm reluctant to use it more often, since I can't get any more of it.

Has anyone used them both, and can give a comparison?

And what, if anything, does the Maca Root do for the shave? I know this plant is a popular ingredient in some "male enhancement" products ... but what does it have to do with shaving?

I think it's pretty good stuff, but you'll have to decide whether it's as good as the others. TBS stuff actually comes in larger containers than either TOBS or Salters though, and isn't that much more expensive. I think on sale it would be cheaper than either.

How would you gentlemen compare it to say a proraso? I'm afraid i don't have alot of cream experience as i've mostly stuck to soaps, but i'm slowly branching out.

My first cream was TBS and second was Proraso. I alternate between the two the majority of the time, although I have quite a few others I just keep going back to these two. I find TBS to make a thicker lather that stays warmer longer in my mug/bowl. Coming into warmer weather here in Oz I can see I will be using Proraso more than TBS for it's cooling effect.

I just received mine from the shaving kit deal. Is it supposed to be a runny consistency? If I held this upside down, it would likely spill.

It is a cream, and the contents will obey the law of gravity. Sometimes my creams in tubs will shift over to the side of the container, if I've stored it on its side. But it shouldn't be so loose that it would spill out.

I think it's about $10 for 6.3 ounces at my TBS in SoCal. This was my "gateway drug" along with the TBS synthetic brush (which is still my only). I tried it and liked it, then found out about DEs and figured, well I'm already kinda old-timey with the brush and the tub, let's go all in.

I found it really easy to lather to the consistency I saw in Mantic's instructional videos and in lathering posts here. I face lather (I'm too lazy to put up with too much process that early in the morning) and find I can get 3 passes worth plus some left to touch-up, even with the synthetic brush. It does like a lot of water, and is a little drying on my skin. The smell is just ok, I find it a little medicinal.

I just finished that first tub and am looking forward to cracking open a TOBS Avacado tomorrow morning. But there is a tub of TBS Maca at my gf's for when I shave there.

Shaved with it this morning..

I do believe it is one of my favorite creams.

+1

I picked some up a week or so ago and had my first shave with it this morning. Boar's brush in a tupperware and it lathered like a champ. Very creamy and nicely "slick." As far as cremes go, this is only my third creme, but I loved it. Definitely my favorite over the Men-U and the C.O. Bigelow. I'd put it above my C&E Sandalwood soap as well.

What I mean is it should be solid enough to stay in the tub even if held upside down. Not as solid as cheese (for example) but it should not be runny at all. Mine is same consistency as Proraso Green if not a tad a firmer
