The Ash vs The Evil Dead thread.

As if the show could not get any more awesome.....a bottle of Clubman appears. Giddy like a schoolgirl.

I know, it was when the Clubman appeared that I felt the need to start this thread :thumbup1:

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - Ash’s Car Belongs to Sam Raimi. In all three movies Ash, drives a yellow 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88. The car is Raimi’s, and Campbell — who met Raimi when they were teenagers — swears that it’s been in “every one of his movies since high school.” It was Peter Parker's Uncle Ben's Car in Spiderman.

Hopefully this will wash away the disappointment of the Evil Dead 2013 remake. It's good to see Bruce Campell back on the screen since Burn Notice went off the air. And btw, his co-star in that, Jeffrey Donovan, also happens to be back in the TV series, Fargo.

Well, Tex, it's up to you. It totally misses the seriously campy elements of the original, there's no Killer Chin, just not as much fun. But its not truely had. If the original never was, It would be watchable

Honestly, I thought the remake was o.k. But only o.k. They probably shouldn't have done it.

It's a decent horror flick, but nowhere near the original. If you can watch a movie and take it for what it is, I'd say go for it.

I couldn't resist so tracked it down and watched some of it, couldn't watch it all. Alternated between mostly stiff boring acting some of the grisliest gore I've seen. Some humor sure would have helped. Seemed more like SAW than Evil Dead except that it loosely followed the Evil Dead plot. As captp said, they probably shouldn't have done it. I just saw Jeffrey Donovan listed in a new movie, Extinction I think it was.

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - A subtle science fiction reference plays a key role. The words Ash must utter to safely retrieve the Necronomicon (“Klaatu verata nikto”) is actually a variation on a phrase from the original version of The Day the Earth Stood Still. In that film, “Klaatu barada nitko” is the phrase one must say to stop the robot Gort from destroying Earth.

If only I could find reruns of "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr."

I can't recall if I ever saw those, but now I want to. Searched Amazon hoping it was on prime but ended up at a link to buy the series on VHS tape! Ever see "My Name is Bruce"? It was a fun movie for Bruce Campbell fans.

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - The film ran out of money and only half of it was completed in the winter of 1980. In order to complete it, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell did everything they could to complete the film. From taking out high interest bank loans, borrowing money from friends and family and even making cold calls to businesses around their hometown state of Michigan. The cold calls worked in that they actually got catering, gasoline and other necessities that the cast and crew needed. Bruce Campbell put up his family's property in Northern Michigan as collateral so that Sam Raimi not only could finish the film, but also blow it up to 35 mm film which was required for theatrical release.

Actually, the movie I had in mind wasn't "My Name is Bruce", but rather "Alien Apocalypse". I got confused because I believe Campbell said "My Name is Bruce" in the movie but that wasn't the name of the movie although there is an extremely low budget independent film named "My Name is Bruce"... Clear as mud? :tongue_sm

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - Most of the hallmark "Evil Dead" demon POV shots that glide across the ground were shot by mounting the camera to a 2X4 while Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell ran along holding either side.

If you need to round out your Bruce Campbell horror movie viewing experience; "Bubba HoTep"

Elvis and JFK fighting an evil soul sucking mummy - it is as awesome as it sounds

Groovy indeed. Too bad Campbell wasn't in every scene as those were the best!

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - Peter Jackson cites "The Evil Dead" as one of his biggest influences. Peter Jackson, Oscar-nominated director of The Lords of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, cites The Evil Dead as a major influence. "It made me think, God, I could do that," says Jackson. "I was old enough, I had a 16mm camera, and here comes a horror movie that somebody of similar age made with a 16mm camera.".

I got a kick out of what's-her-face fighting with the deadite in Ash's trailor and there's an extra arm that pops up. Very subtle, very classic evil dead.

I loved the whole thing. SWMBO enjoyed it too, but complained it was only half an hour. I say a getting little Ash is better than no Ash.

It was very true to the style, as you said "getting little Ash is better than no Ash."

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - The Japanese marketing for the film Army Of Darkness leaned heavily on the supermarket setting, complete with cans of (Bruce) Campbell’s Soup included on the poster, and the film was rechristened: if you want Army Of Darkness in Japan, you’ve got to ask for Captain Supermarket.

Was kinda disappointed in the doll cgi, but overall enjoyable. Glad to have Campbell back. Didn't care for the remake.
I kinda liked the doll, there was one big cgi big head shot into a big ball of blood that seemed out of place but that was the only cgi that was noticeably out of place with me.

Great 1st episode. The Chin still has it. I'm hooked

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - In The Evil Dead, the white liquid that often emits from the possessed after they're injured or maimed is 2% milk that Sam Raimi chose to use, not just to show how the possessed aren't normal beings but also to mix it up so the MPAA wouldn't give the film an X rating. Ultimately the film was released unrated.

“The first thing I gotta do is see a man about a book. There must be a spell I can say to undo all this.”
“The other first thing I gotta do is some cardio, ‘cause my heart is jackhammering like a quarterback on prom night.”

Great show, and looks promising.

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - In Army of Darkness, Billy Bryan, the actor who portrays the second monster in the medieval pit, also portrayed the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters.

Starz has released the full first episode online on their Ash vs Evil Dead FB page, if anyone wants to check it out who doesn't have cable.

That's very cool of them to do, and you to post it. I bet there are quite a few folks who would like it but don't have Startz.

Evil Dead Franchise fun fact - The three films, The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, can be seamlessly cut together. This has been done by fans although losing some introductory footage in the sequels.
