Talcum Powder as Deodorant

If you have ever seen “From Here to Eternity” (1953) you might remember a scene where Frank Sinatra’s character covers himself with Yardley English Lavender talcum powder (see the photo below).

It got me to wondering, did people use talcum powder as deodorant back then?

Air conditioning was a rare thing back then. Hawaii can be a pretty warm place. So, talcum powder was to absorb sweat and help you feel a little fresher during the day.
