Essentially all the badger hair comes from China these days. Plenty of good knots do as well. Just look at Oumo. The problem here is that some European (and other) “luxury“ brands are just mass produced low end products with a fancy sticker and marketing.
I'm not embarrassed to say that one of my favorite brushes is a Yaqi badger, that I bought off the BST for 20 bucks.
It performs better than the artisan brush that I owned (and shall remain nameless here) which cost more than 10x as much.
Is it as nice as my RV/Shavemac brush? Of course not. It is a reliable, non-shedding brush that doesn't hog lather and feels wonderful on my face...and I love the vintage "Ever-Ready" style handle.
So, yeah, decent, inexpensive Chinese badger brushes do exist.
