Styptic Pencil Use.. what am I missing??

My styptic pencil lives in the plastic tube it came in. To use I rinse the end liberally under a tap, apply, then rinse again, shake off and put back. I've gotten two years out of it and while it's a bit rough, no holes and no problems. I only ever get small nicks now and then so don't need a big alum block. I finish off with some Thayers which may help with what an alum block rub would do.

Don't buy the small, for just a bit more get the HUGE.
Then, as others said, cold rinse the face, don't wet the pencil. Rub the spot, then wipe the stick with tissue.
I keep it in the plastic container, and even the small one in my travel kit has lasted >year. The biggin is for home use.

"My Nik is Sealed" works great! I use it from time to time as an alternative to the pencil. But as far as making the pencil last...I agree with all who say, to dry it off before you place it back into the tube.
