I use a rectangular container half-filled with hot water to swish while shaving, then rinse under the tap afterwards, and empty contents of water in shower and rinse container there. This keeps the sink virtually whisker free, the wife happy, and the sink drain free-flowing.

Not a bad a idea.

3rd option - I try to watch my water consumption so I use a bowl the size of 3 or 4 cups. Once filled with hot water, I sink my lathering cup in it and load my brush first and than used for my safety or straight rinsing.

+1 That is the way I've been doing it for decades! :thumbup1:

I'm actually curious about this one too. After swishing it under hot water, I've been (I know, I know) taking my blade OUT, and wiping the blade on a towel to get rid of any built up soap scum or hairs, then wiping the edged with a Qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol...
I heard somewhere that just leaving it to airdry can rust the blade edge?

If the blade's stainless steel and you're rinsing under hot water you're probably o.k. to begin with.

As far as alcohol goes, I have a small plastic tray with the alcohol in it and I just immerse the razor head, blade and all, in it for a couple of seconds then let the thing dry. Loosen the head of the razor if you want to help things dry even better, but be sure to tighten it again before you shave next time!

I'm semi-germophobic, so you'll never catch me filling the sink with water and putting any of my hardware in there. The germs from your hand washing all end up in the sink.

I wouldn't call it a 'swish' so much as a 'rake.' I have a sink full of water that acts as a scuttle for my lather bowl (keeps it warm and toasty). Whenever I need to let go of the lather, I rake the razor along the water, slightly submerged.

I rinse under running water.

I used to keep Barbisol in an empty shaving cream tub with the lid tightly screwed on in a drawer, and would swish the razor head in it after I finished shaving. But my hand slipped one morning screwing the lid back on the tub full of blue Barbisol, and......well, let's just say it looked like a Smurf exploded on my side of the the bathroom. Talk about the "blues"!!! Everything I have was blue.

I decided it's not necessary to rinse in Barbisol after every shave, at least until we remodel and change the bathroom colors to blue.

I spit a stream of Red Man on the razor in between swipes at my face and do a final rinse with a shot of Old Crow bourbon.

I have a light trickle of hot water filling the sink. I swish in the sink until it gets too dirty and release the water and use the tap for the rest.

If it's a weekend and I am using a hotpot to build my lather, I use the remaining boiling water in my sink (stainless steel stays warm).

I picked other as I do both. I usually use the water in the sink already to clean what I see... I then disassemble and clean whatever's left under running water, pat dry, re-assemble!

The sink swish.

Afterwards I rinse it with hot running water, and then let it take a bath for a while in a jar of 90% ETOH.

Finally, it comes to rest in a shot glass on the counter.

That's a waste of good bourbon... unless you do your rinse in a glass and drink afterwards

Would there be any other way? The proraso and shaving scum give the bourbon a real kick though - tastes kinda like a fermented vanilla milkshake dug out of a McDonald's dumpster, that someone had dropped a Kool cigarette in.

I have a sink full of hot water. With it being a DE I make one pass, spin the razor and make another pass with the other side of the blade. Then I swirl it in the sink of hot water and repeat. Once the shave is over I rinse the razor under running water then dry it with a towel.

I tried the fire hose once but it blew the razor right out the window....:blushing:

:oops:You're supposed to clamp it in the bench vise first.

Because I don't want to listen to the sound of running water during my shave, I rinse the razor in the sink with some warm water in it. Not a full sink, just enough water so that I can dip the razor in it without stretching. I rinse my face with running hot water between passes, which fills the sink by the end of the shave.
