I've always carried a 1911 in 45acp but for a couple of reasons decided that I wanted higher capacity per magazine and a DA/SA pistol. The higher capacity, IMO, is pretty self explanitory. The DA/SA part of it took a little soul searching. @OkieStubble posted here some time ago that in a self defense situation when you adrenaline has kicked in, you may be moving, and and your trying to process a lot of information at once a longer and heavier trigger pull may be better than a SA trigger. I thought about this a lot and it started to make sense to me. My reasoning is that its would be much easier to "bump" a SA trigger in a high stress situation causing an errant shot. I spent a career in high stress situations, including training and working with SWAT teams, and I understand how quickly fine motor skills, like trigger control, can deteriorate. So this makes the most sense to me but as in everything on B&B YMMV. :biggrin1:

No range time yet, just a lot of dry firing. The kids head back to school next week so I should get to the range then. SA trigger breaks cleanly at 3.4lbs with a short, tactile and audible reset. The DA is long, smooth, and also breaks very cleanly. I haven't been able to measure the DA trigger weight because my trigger gauge only goes to 8lbs, factory setting should be about 10lbs. I have new digital gauge on the way so I should be able to get a better reading soon.

I put a Holosun EPS on it with an impact machine plate with rear sight. This is my first red dot on a pistol and so far I really like it. The sights co-witness perfectly in the lower 3rd of the EPS window. One issue I've found is that if I align the sights the EPS dot is way to the right. I'm waiting to actually shoot it before I try to adjust it. I don't know if the EPS reticle is off or if there is something off with the way the rear sight was milled on the plate. I'm also going to get rid of the fiber optic front site and install a plane black front sight. The EPS dot is red and with the red FO front sight the window feels a little too cluttered with 2 red objects in the window.

Ortics Planet was running a sale on MecGar mags so I picked up 8 spare mags for 1/2 the price of the MecGar made CZ mags. I have a IWB Kydex (GASP) holster ordered from Legacy Firearms. After some range time I have a feeling I'll be doing some work to reduce the DA trigger weight. CGW sells a spring kit that should take the DA pull down to about 6lbs without affecting the SA pull. A slight polish of all the internals will probably help as well. I also have some LOK GridLOk palm swell brass grips ordered. The original aluminum grips are ok but they're a little too slim for my big hands. I also want to shoot this pistol in IPDA if I can find any matches around here and felt that the weight of the brass grips may help with felt recoil since the pistol has a lightweight aluminum frame. I'm on a "notify me" list for the same grips but in aluminum in case the brass grips end up being heavier that I like for CCW.

Oh yeah, NO light.:biggrin1:

So you are used to carry your 1911 in Condition 1 and are now switching to loaded & hammer down? I guess that will take much of retraining, right?

I have an older SP-01 Shadow but for range use only - defacto no carry permits issued in Austria.

Yes, although I shoot revolvers fairly frequently so I’m used to a long heavy trigger pull. I’ll carry the shadow loaded with hammer at half **** safety off. Although I could carry the shadow condition 1 the safety is pretty flat making harder to sweep off with the thumb.

I have nooooo problem helping people spend money: CZ Custom- Shadow Safety😎

I'll get pics up of my Girsan MC P35 PI, once everything is put together, but the nubbin safety was a problem!

New LOK grips showed up. I really like them but they’re pretty heavy- like 1/3 lb heavy. I’m going to the range tomorrow so I’ll shoot the pistol with both grips to see which ones feel better. I like the look better and the palm swell for my right hand is excellent. The support/left hand I may try a flat grip and see if that feels better. I’m keeping these brass grips regardless, but I’m hoping to get a set in aluminum soon.

I like seeing almost all gun modificstions. But these type of simpler mods for the grip feel are some of my favorite. And the grip looks good as well.

I hope for you @Whisky this grip feels good while shooting. And maybe provide some recoil reduction as well with the weight gain.

Well, I’m in love. Put 375 rounds through it today without a hiccup. I shot 5 different brands including 50 rounds of my current carry ammo. My only complaint is that I haven’t been shooting a lot lately and now my arms are tired. I’m seriously considering a Cz 75 for a HD gun to replace my 1911. The EPS works great, I can easily put 10shots in an 6 inch circle at 25yds.

Put another 370 rounds through it yesterday including 70 rounds of carry ammo. Absolutely no issues. At 1000rnds I’ll start carrying it. Still waiting on the CGW spring kit to arrive so I can lower the DA pull a bit. I also need to get a holster for it. I have a legacy firearms kydex that is a well built holster it’s just not that comfortable. I have another holster on the way, hopefully it’ll work better for me.

About holsters. Since i have been able to carry State laws legally i have been researching holsters. And we saw a local kydex holster maker at a local gun show and his holsters are nice and my sister inlawvis going to order another holster from him.

Do you prefer a certain type of holster? Or just get ones you find will be comfortable?

I’m a leather holster person all the way. Milt Sparks, as far as I’m concerned, is the epitome of a good holster. The problem is that lead times for Sparks holsters are at 40 weeks right now. You can literally conceive a child in the amount of time it would take you to get a Sparks holster.

Kydex isn’t bad per se, just not my favorite material. In fact once I lose 10-15ish more lbs I want to get a kydex appendix (AIWB) carry holster from legacy firearms. So far the only Kydex holster I’ve found to be comfortable is a “super tuck” by Crossbreed holsters but the steel clips they use tore up my belt and clothes. I have another holster ordered for the Shadow 2c that resembles a super tuck but uses plastic clips. We’ll see how it works.

Everyone that has been carrying for any length of time has a “box of shame” full of holsters that just didn’t work out. Sometimes you spend more than the pistol cost to find a holster that works.

I agree for the most part with what @Whisky says about holsters. I have several Milt Sparks holsters, both IWB and OWB. They are the best. But I have to say that I've gravitated towards kydex for IWB for a couple of reasons. Primarily because they are thinner and less bulky. I have a perfectly good Sparks "Summer Special" for a S&W M66 that is too thick for comfortable IWB use. I could and need to shed a couple of pounds or buy a bigger pants size, but the holster is still too bulky for my tastes. Additionally, kydex is cheaper and usually doesn't have the wait times associated with custom leather products. I can make my own kydex holsters and have, or modify a commercial kydex holster. I can't do either with leather. If you have an attached weapon light to your pistol, you are more likely to find a kydex holster to fit it. Like @Whisky says, I to have a box(s) of shame with well made holsters that just didn't suit me for one reason or another. I'm afraid there is often a lot of trial and error to finding the best holster for any given need. YMMV.

1. Great Pistol set up and kudos for wringing it out before you edc the gun.

2. If you edc’ed a Cond 1 1911, you certainly could do so with the CZ and only have to manage one trigger pull.

3. JM Kydex, IIRC, has sub 3 week quick ship offerings for you pistol.

I’m going to carry the pistol on the 1/2 notch with the safety off. The thumb safety on it is just a flat serrated switch which is almost impossible to sweep off while presenting the pistol. The CGW ultra-lite kit showed up yesterday so I’m going swap the springs out tomorrow. I should get the DA trigger pull down to about 6lbs. Still heavy, but better than the 10lbs it is now. Even at 10lbs the trigger is soooo smooth it feels like less. Thanks for the link for the JM kydex I’m waiting on a holster to show up from Muddy River Tactical, hopefully it’ll work for me.

I installed the ultra lite spring kit. DA is down to a very nice 6.7lbs average on 10 pulls. SA is down to about 2.6lbs average on 10 pulls. The SA trigger is almost too light, I’ll make the decision after I take it to the range. I may put the original springs back in it.

IMG_7019.jpegIMG_7020.jpegA couple of new holsters showed up today from Muddy River Tacticle.

The top one is their comfort carry. It resembles a crossbreed super tuck but it’s a full Kydex holster mounted to the leather as opposed to the super tuck which is more of a Kydex outer shell attached to leather. I’m really liking the comfort carry. I think it’ll get even better once the leather softens up and conforms to my body a bit.

The green basket weave is a paddle style OWB. No frills but has good retention
