Sealing a handle - CA vs Polyurethane spray

I have several handles I would like to seal. Some are old Bakelite that leech their color out when soaking in hot water prior to using them, while others are wooden that are either painted or have decorating stickers on them. Would a coating of CA be a good idea for sealing these handles, or spraying a coating of polyurethane be better? Thanks much for your thoughts.

I do not know how Bakelite would react to such coatings in the long run.

Perhaps it would be safer to avoid soaking the handle all-together and only soak the bristles halfway in a narrow cup or glass that would keep the brush upright and handle dry.

That's not's really practical in use I'm afraid. I use a scuttle so I get a warm lather, and the brush sits in that water. So sealing the handle would be the only practical solution for me. I'm trying to find out if anyone has experience with using either option and can share their results.
