Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

My Gillette 461B set is now complete w the addition of this super nice , probably German , correct size, non - branded travel shaving brush.... 3/4 x 2-1/2 inches is not an easy size brush to find friends.....

Could be German? Could be Brazilian, I knew i had one, easy find, thought i had two? went loony looking the second, found three.
If I tagged it and bagged it, i was happy at that time of tagging and bagging that my research was near enough correct?

so, my tag says "Velox, made in Brazil" and I'm happy that is right.

Stopped by my local antique shop today, I was surprised to see this 1961(G1) in the $12 razor bin (used to be $6). Mechanically it's good, it just needs a replate. This what it look like before I cleaned it.

Every used razor tells a story:

Fatboy G3 loaded with a J4 Super Blue Blade
Dirty razor in a dirty case. Priced like dirt. Extremely inexpensive dirt, on sale and marked down.

End of the Fatboy manufacturing cycle, apparently used for 3 years or less. The price was unbeatable, it looked to be in good shape under a very uniform layer of dried residue, and the mechanical action seemed perfect.

I made up the story that this was a holiday gift to a gentleman in decline.

My ultrasonic cleaner died a while back, so a Dawn Ultra soak, an old toothbrush, and some careful scraping brought back the attractive surface. Some ink was lost, as well as the very clingy residues.

This is the best Fatboy I have examined or operated. Not NOS, but a smooth operator. Based on the matching scum, I believe the razor was poorly rinsed and carefully stored every day in the carefully handled (but never cleaned) case. Maybe this paragon will convert me to a Fatboy believer.

Nice acquisition! Amazingly, that clamshell case is the same design as the one that held my Merkur 36 (three-piece short screw slant) when I bought it new in the late 1970s.

RAD strikes YET AGAIN!

UPS dropped this on my doorstep earlier today:

I'm not in the least interested in single-edge razors, but for some reason (unbeknownst to me), the OneBlade piqued my interest. So I went mad and purchased their cheapest version (the Core):

Very upmarket packaging :

It feels good in hand, and a lot heavier than it looks (67.4g loaded):

My "grail" razor (the OliBlade) is booked in for this evening. Then I have THREE new razors to try out.
So, hopefully I'll get to it THIS WEEK.

I must admit, I'm enjoying my RAD.
