QED Vetiver!!

Gentlemen, Charles has just informed me of his own personal stick of Vetiver shaving soap that he enjoyed yesterday. While he personally reports it to be heavenly, he is not currently planning to make it available to the public due to a perceived lack of interest, so it's up to us to demonstrate the weight of our combined purchasing power in petitioning him to step up and offer such a product to the community.

Personally, I always thought that it was a shame that the QED Rose shaving soap reviewed by Joel was never availabe. For anyone who knows Charles do you think it would be worth approaching him to see if we could get some of the fragrances that don't make it into general production made especially for forum members? Xert, the Vetiver sounds good too.
Warm regards,
Alex

Alex,
He adamently refuses to use any more fragarances that are not made from pure/natural essential oil. The Rose and Violet (my two favorites) cannot be made with essential oil, as violet essential oil doesn't really smell like violet - or all that wonderful for that matter - and 100% rose essential oil is AMAZINGLY expensive.... I mean hundreds of dollar an ounce.

You sure could try.... but it would be an uphill battle.

Joel, when you were lucky enough to test the rose soap was there ever any intention that it would be put into production? When I posted my first impressions of the Nancy Boy shave cream I was worried Imight have been a little OTT:rolleyes: but then I read your QED Rose review I realised that it was just a normal reaction to great products:wink: Given how impressed you seemed to be by this particular soap do you think it would be worthwhile for a group of interested individuals to approach QED? Although the idea of such an incredible product being consigned to the pages of history, all the while maintaining an air of mystery, has a certain romanticism, I would be much happier with a tub in my hand:biggrin:
Warm regards,
Alex

Alex,
It was in fact put into production and was sold to the masses. Unfortunatly the formula had gone awry - and TOO much rose fragarance oil was added (more so then the version I currently have) and it caused some gents to get irritated. That was the impetus which caused Charles to nix all fragarance oils and only use natural essential oils. His lime, lavender - and other scented soaps are every bit as good shave wise, and all smell simply amazing, so you can still try out his current soaps and enjoy a superb shave - just not with the exceptional rose scented version..... for what its worth - the "Violetta" version of his soap was just as good as the rose... maybe even better. As far as garnering interest and approaching Charles.... refer to my previous post.

I would be ALL over a vetyver soap!

(I still have a tub of the original Rose, too! )

Come on, Charles - let's get it done buddy!

i got lucky and acquired two veviter (salter) and two original QED rose...i get a little irritation out of them, but not much...

i still have the violetta, too.....mmmwwhahhahahaaa...

I too would like to be able to replenish my Violetta. I talked to Charles about this and here is his response.........

"Mike :

I want QEDman shaving soaps to be as pure as possible and so I have decided to use only natural essential oils for fragrance. I have also decided against using coloring ... NOTHING will go into QEDman shaving soap that does not have to be in there to allow the soap to function properly ... and to smell nice.

To produce the Violetta I would have to purchase a minimum of the fragrance oil and a minimum of the coloring agent (I assume you have the purple [violet] soap) .... and then I have to make a minimum batch. You'd have to take ALL the jars the minimum batch produces .... don't know what that would be off hand. This is really not what I want to do with the range, but it's not in me to tell a customer No!

Gentlemen, I thought I would pass on this note from Charles.

Stephen, if chaps truly want a Vetiver, then I'll do one ... but in stickform first ...
if response is good, then perhaps a jar. But I hope these
chaps truly know the scent of Vetiver. I would use the pure oil so there is
no room for anyone to say they don't like it. I don't want to hear it
smells like burnt rubber, or smoldering wood ash, or old gym socks, or dirty
underwear ... again, I will use genuine EO and the highest quality, so the
scent will be dead-on accurate. I see some chap mentioning Vetiver by
Salter ... well, if memory serves me correctly, Salter's Vetiver is not
based on 100% Vetiver ... so Salter cannot be used as a comparison with
something based on 100% Vetiver. There are a couple colognes on the market
called Vetiver, but they are not pure Vetiver so, again, cannot be used as a
comparison. I love the scent of pure Vetiver, which is woody, smoky, earthy.

I ordered a shave tub of Vetiver from Mama Bear. The cost was reasonable. We shall see what the scent smells like.

I would be in for a couple of these scents, in shaving stick form the cost would be low enough that if one did not like a scent, it would not be much of a $$$ loss.
Cheers, DJ.
