Penhaligon's - Longevity?

After receiving several samples, I am wondering if my skin does not partner well with Penhaligon's products. There doesn't seem to be much scent left after a couple of hours.

I have been described as having an acute sense of smell. With several of their colognes (especially Opus 1870), I can barely smell them on my skin.

I have read about some of the strong Penhaligon's scents. Do you suppose that my skin could cause this great of a variance? Or have others experienced similar results?

RJ

I have noticed the same thing with the samples. Trying to decide between English Fern and BB but both seem to vanish quickly.

I would be interested to hear from others as well, as I do not own the actual product.

Where are you applying? That can have a lot to do with a scent's longevity. There are tons that will recommend it, but I DO NOT recommend putting it on your wrists. For me, scents disappear very quickly this way. The best places I've found are the insides of the elbows and on my chest near my neckline.

Also, I know I'll catch some flack for this, but I also sometimes apply a dab to my shirt collar. This has been purported to damage clothing, but I've been doing this for a few years now and have never had any issues.

Penhaligon's fragrances work very well for me, and I have "cologne-eating" skin. In other words, most scents just don't last. I really don't have any longevity issues with them.

i love castile, but i cant get it to last londer then 2-3 hours,

I believe that Castile is often found to be short-lived.

I get very good longevity from the Penahigons I've used, in particular, the BB, Raquets and English Fern - however, colognes generally seem to last on me.

I apply to my wrists (inside) and just above the neckline on both sides of my throat.

Hammam Bouquet seems to last all day on me, although I must admit to daubing myself with it as it is my favourite fragnce bar none.
English Fern I can get maybe 6-7 hours maximium, which isn't too bad.
Blenheim Bouquet is dependent on the prevailing climactic conditions of the day; on a warm, humid day it won't last an hour. On cooler, more overcast days it's good for maybe 4 or 5.
Douro is 3 or 4 hours at most.
Racquets Formula was so vile that I washed it off straight away and traded it.
Endymion, Castille, Quercus and Elizabethan Rose last maybe 1 or 2 hours at most. Can't say I'm too upset by that as I'm not overly keen on them, although I do like the Elizabethan Rose for layering with GFT Rose soap.

At least 6 to 8 hours on every one of them for me, with Endymion regularly going even longer. (I own Blenheim, Castile, Endymion, English Fern, Douro, Opus, and Elixir). I typically wear one shot to each wrist, one shot on the chest, and one on each side of the neck.

That's a lot of shots! :001_smile

I get the most longevity from Endymion, Blenheim Bouquet, English Fern, Raquets, and Opus 1870 (pretty much in that order). Castile never hung around very long on me.

It could be where you are apply the fragrance. Wrists don't last very long, but I like putting a little dab there anyway just so I can smell how the scent progresses. I've had the best luck with dabs behind the earlobes, a dab at the base of the neck (front), and inside of the elbows.

Another thing that I've done in the past is to get a large flacon/splash bottle. I did this with C&S Neroli (I adore the scent but it doesn't last very long). Now I just splash a bit in my palm and slap it on like an aftershave (in smaller quantity, of course) and I get MUCH better longevity from it.

I've tried wrists, neck, chest, etc...

From some of the replies, it appears that I am not the only one. I wish it lasted longer on me... I enjoy the scent of Douro.

Cheers,

RJ

I feel like BB lingers all day on me...and it's one of my favorites so I guess I am lucky. I put 1870 on like an aftershave since it does wear off quickly in smaller amounts. I just try and make sure I don't wear it unless I'm not leaving the house for about an hour so it doesn't knock people over.

I seem to have the same problem with most scents. I have samples of English Fern and Douro. I find the English Fern lasts a bit longer. However, if I add a dab to my shirt collar it will outlast the day.

I've noticed that I don't get a very long lasting application by dabbing directly out of the little sample bottles. I transfered the juice to a small vial with a spray top and get much better longevity on everything except BB which seems to last about 1 hr no matter what I do.

Penhaligon's (I mainly wear Douro and 1870) hold up very well on me.

I seem to have problems with Trumper's products lasting on me.

Strange how body chemistry creates so many variables.

I guess I can count myself as one of the lucky ones in regards to any fragrance. One spray from any bottle in my collection will yield 8-12 hours (sometimes more) of fine sillage. The Penhaligon's in my collection (Endymion, Blenheim, Opus, English Fern, LP No. 9) all fall into the "sometimes more" category. In fact, my 100ml bottle of Endymion, which I use *a lot* (wife's favorite) and have had for almost a year, is still full! The liquid level is still above the protrusion or angle at the top of the bottle.
