Packing pipes away ready for a house move?

I'm thinking about starting to pack most of my pipes away in advance of a relocation. I finished boxing most of the tobaccos, but at a little uncertain as to how best to pack up the pipes. Is leaving them all individually bubble wrapped for any length of time, liable to cause them any problems, or is there a better way of safely packing them for transit, and/or potentially a few months boxed storage?

my general philosophy in packing things like pipes is on of gentle consideration for my future self. Throwing away hopeless projects/broken parts. Keeping unfinished but still worthy project parts together and consolidated (it possible with brief notes).

I will try to imagine my future self opening the box and getting down to business. How can i help that guy with his task? If Im being brutally honest with myself, the next person to see the stuff may be my heir and hopefully not a stranger at Goodwill. We never know just how long it will take to get around to our dearest projects again.

Yes, I'll only be packing away the pipes I know I want to smoke in future. The "Do I really want to keep this?" question, is happening automatically on everything I pack away. A lot of stuff (mainly books and kitchenalia) has already been sent to the charity shops.

I figure it prevents possible damage from rough handling. The usps could break a well packaged tin cup. 😂

Ahh... did you mean disassembled? Sorry, I think the penny just dropped.

I hadn't considered disassembled. I was thinking along the lines of bowl down in a box, with the stems running up the sides, leaving space in the middle for falcon parts etc. But yes, disassembled should help protect against snapping off a tenon or whatever. It might make it fun trying to figure out which stem goes on which bowl at the other end of the relocation though

I'll definitely give that some thought. :thumbup1:

I think disassembling might help avoid stem-shank fit issues only if there are any major temperature or humidity changes expected during the move or storage period..

Well, that is a possibility actually. There is a chance I have to vacate this place, before settling into the new one, so there may well be a storage period I don't have control of.

So I'm sold. I'll disassemble everything and wrap the components separately :thumbup1:
