olive oil as a facial moisturizer?

i'm still trying to find the ideal moisturizer that doesn't make my face look greasy/feel greasy, and that also doesn' clog pores. After reading about the oil cleansing method i thought about using a few drops of olive oil on my face, right after i step out of the shower. I tried it this afternoon and my skin feels phenomenal. like really soft, and comfortable. Initially it looked a bit greasy but after a few minutes i think my skin absorbed it and it just looked natural.

I'm going to continue to use this for a week or so and see how things go. Also thinking about adding a few drops with my proraros aftershave to see if it makes it more moisturizing. If anyone's tried olive oil as a facial moisturizer, or just thoughts on the matter, feel free to post:001_smile!

I'm pretty sure the Roman's bathed in olive oil back in the day... Putting oil on our skin seems slightly strange to us today becuase society has been using soaps for so long and we are taught that oil=clogged pores, but historically speaking, there is really new about it.

I have been using different oils periodically as a moisturizer and I have acne. I have been using the OCM for a couple of days and it feels great. I use 50-50 of castor oil and grapeseed oil.

It may work, as long as you are happy with it. Most after shave balms dries up and my face feels dry after a while. So I started using Vaseline petroleum jelly right after I get out of the shower and towelled my face while it is still moist, then I apply the balms on top of it.
But some after shave balms - the ones that contain castor oil, olive oils, grapeseed oils, seems to do the trick by themselves since they contain the oils, so I don't see why olive oil won't work.

Olive Oil is wonderful stuff. I have used it in my hair after spending two weeks on beaches in Israel (the salt dries the heck out of your scalp).

I would avoid using it daily as your body naturally produces an oil, and as with anything on the human body - once you start substituting with a foreign substance, your body tends to slow down on internal production.

Just a thought.

I personally wouldn't reccomend vasoline for that. I like the grapeseed oil because it is a lighter oil, soaks in faster (it is a carrier oil, which helps other oils soak in better). Olive oil is a carrier oil too, but I find it to be thicker and not absorb as fast (and I prefer the near odorless smell of the grape seed to OO).

I've been using olive oil as as a pre-shave. If you want your oil a bit thinner try warming a bit first. I have a 4oz. glass bottle that I microwave for 15 to 20 seconds. the warm oil feels great, and a little bit goes a long way. Remember warm not hot! :scared:

From what I understand, extra virgin olive oil will not clog pores. I personally have began using jojoba oil as a pre shave and I like it a lot.

My skin doesn't agree with OCM or oil moisturizers, but I use an olive oil soap now and holy cow does it make my face feel good.

I've been doing OCM for over a month now and it has improved my skin. Ironically, I used to have oily skin and now that I cleanse with oil, it is no longer oily.

Forgot to mention, I use 50% cold pressed castor oil and 50% cold pressed avocado oil and a few drops of an essential oil like peppermint, clove or tea tree to add a some scent to it. The avocado oil is great for your skin.

I tried OCM (60% cold pressed castor, 30% EVOO, 10% lavender/tea tree EO) for a few weeks with mixed results. My regimen was one OC every two days; some mornings I'd have beautiful results, others I'd have mild redness. I discontinued OCM but have been using the mixture, with some success, as a pre-shave oil (underneath my prep lather/hot towel, not during actual shave). How often do you use OCM? If it's not every day, what do you do on your off days?

I'd rather eat my olives, olive oils and avocado's.

I'm of the impression that jojoba basically is indisputably the best topical oil based on it being virtually identical to the oil our skin naturally produces.

I actually do OCM every day. It has worked pretty well for me. Do you think the redness is due to the higher concentration of castor oil and tea tree you are using? I've found tea tree to be pretty drying for me.

I have been using this to shower with for about six months now and it seems to give enough lubrication to not need a pre-shave. I just leave it on my face for a few minutes before rinsing. This soap has also softened the skin on my elbows and feet. It is awfully dry in Nevada and any product that has some promise I try. This one has been a winner. You might want to try it out.

you guys are nuts...and interesting. I never thought of it this way. umm mebbe?
