What's new

now we know

Never feel uneasy when you get something fair and square. That is an awesome set and I'm please to know it was a B&B member who got it rather than one of the few sellers who buy things and then place them right back on Ebay a week later at double the price. Awesome win for you my friend! Take very good pictures and contribute them to the Wiki as well!

Pics will certainly be up for all to see as well as for the Wiki. One thing I tell myself when I win & I know I beat out a fellow member, is that at least its "in the family" now. I don't make enough money or have the room for classic cars, so this works out well me as far as preserving a little history.

Congratulations on your winning this remarkable example of the Gillette Cavalier Set. I'm the member that nearly beat out your bid...my high bid was $736.51

Just for the record, what was your highest bid amount?

Have you all seen the listing with the $10,000.01 bid on a Gillette Old Type
De Luxe Safety Razor Combination Set!

you are absolved- however you can't go swimming for 1/2 hr after you've finished eating; (lest you get cramps and drown).

Way back when and there, even a shower after eating was considered to be playing with your life. "Disparate" the general umbrella term for such daring-doo, which included opening the refrigerator after coming in from the rain, or braving the lethal late night/early morning air.

You were lucky, only one half hour to recover.

My high bid was $750, so we were both very close.
I did see that $10,000.01 razor. I offered him one of my kidneys, but he hasn't responded yet. I think he's still thinking it over. I even told him I'd hold it for free until he needs it. I didn't tell him it was the one that gets kidney stones though!

That seller has been listing quite a few very nice razors lately, many of them minty.

The Cavalier may be the last of the really nice ones, unfortunately, according to the seller. I won another razor & asked about combined shipping as well as what else may be in the pipeline, like another engraved razor, & was told that the Cavalier was the nicest of the bunch & that most of what we've seen we gonna be it. There was mention of some others still left though.

But the shipping was only $4.95!!

Yeah, you'd think they might reconsider that but considering what the set cost, I'd be sure someone bought tracking and shipping insurance on it - which $4.95 doesn't include. And if the buyer is in Texas, they also get charged 8% tax according to the Shipping & Payments tab. Hope you aren't in Texas, eyeguy! lol!

I jokingly mentioned free shipping, but that was a no-go, which was OK, but we definitely agreed that insurance was a good idea for this purchase! Its always good for the seller to bring up insurance! I think that when the price gets up that high, the seller should almost always offer it.

Seriously, you just spent $700+ and they wouldn't ship it for free after it being mentioned? Geez. Good going on the insurance. USPS is known to lose a few things.

I spent well over $1000, so yeah it sucks, but I wanted it & I gotta pay! If I were the seller, I'd do free shipping with insurance!
Oh, and if USPS loses it, there will be a re-defining of going postal!!!:w00t:

Over $1000? What else did you buy??

Let's see, I got a Goodwill (in the cardboard box), the Aristocrat, the Somerset, & the Cavalier. Missed out on a few more though, which may have been a good thing! SWMBO would've likely flipped had I won everything I wanted!!
