My review of Four Roses bourbon

Meh...

Tried it for the first time today. Not bad, but won't be buying it again. I'm surprised that I often see it on "good value" lists. Not as good as the lower cost Evan Williams or Very Old Barton. About the same price as the superior Old Grand Dad and Wild Turkey.

Glad I saw this. This is not the Single Barrel or Small Batch, right? Been very close to grabbing a bottle as I read so many recommendations, but I just can't see it being super special at that price. Somewhere down the line I'll grab a glass to try it, but I'll pass on the bottle for now. Can anyone compare it to Elijah Craig or Woodford Reserve or Maker's?

I have tried both the standard yellow label and the Small Batch, much prefer the Small Batch. Have yet to try the single barrel, priced more than I want to spend on a bottle.

The small batch and single barrel choices are very good, and I keep both in my bourbon rotation. I am NOT a fan of the yellow label. I would rate the Four Roses single barrel as high as Craig and Woodford (and I like them both) and I would rate the single barrel higher than Makers.

I pick up Small Batch from time to time, and enjoy it. One of our club stores (Costco or Sam's) carries it, and I put one in the cart whenever the Mrs. takes me shopping!

Yeah, the regular yellow label is nothing special. Go with the small batch. The single barrel isnt worth it either. Its good, but I actually prefer the small batch to the single barrel and it is cheaper too.

The small batch tastes like I'm sucking on a vanilla bean. That and Angels Envy bourbon. All I can taste in these two are vanilla bean and sweet tobacco.

I didn't like it much either. Didn't hate it, finished the bottle but didn't buy another. I only used it as a mixer, I'd much rather have Evan Williams, Old Grandad, etc.
I haven't tried the single barrel or small batch, this was regular old yellow label.

A lot of difference in style between these bourbons, IMO. FR Yellow would be closest to Maker's in that it is quite light in flavor profile, though FR is not a wheater. E Craig is much older and more of an old school, deep flavored style. I find Woodford to also be a deeper style with more dark flavors of the barrel, but a little more restrained and not as big as EC.
