Mother's Mag and Al polish

Is Mother's Mag and Al safe for cleaning chrome on razors? Will antiques benefit?

It works very well for stainless and carbon knives, but I am hesitant to use it on plated razors.

Thanks

It depends on what kind of metal you are polishing, and how fine a finish you want. Generic "metal" polishes will clean aluminum, chrome, nickel, brass, copper, and silver, but may dull bright finishes like nickel and chrome. Aluminum polish can also dull a bright chrome or nickel finish. Chrome polish should work fine on any chrome plate. Jeweler's rouge is best on gold plate and bright nickel finishes.

I generally use Scrubbing Bubbles to clean followed by Maas to polish. On fine finishes I will lightly hand-rub the Maas polish with a few drops of water, and then rinse the polish off before drying.

I've used it on chrome and gold plated razors. Worked OK. My only problem with it is the solvents and hydrocarbons it leaves behind. It's hard to get out of all the nooks and crannies and smells really bad. I just use toothpaste and a brush now. Seems to work just as well and leaves a nice minty/pepperminty scent behind.

I've used it, and its much finer grit than Brasso, Noxon, or Haggerty polish, but not nearly as fine as Meguiars plastic cleaner & polish (which also shines metal, and leaves a bit of a protective wax coat, too).

The only thing is, and others have mentioned it, Mother's Mag and Al. Polish leaves behind a horrible, stinking grease residue. You'll have to scub out all the nooks and crannies with a toothbrush and Dawn... more work than Mother's is worth, IMHO.

I will give Mothers' smell the miss and try toothpaste and Maas instead.
