"Kind of Blue" and "The Birth of the Cool" are wonderful, accessible albums. I highly recommend them. "Sketches of Spain" is excellent too.

You should start with Kind of Blue. It is extremely generic, but at the same time, it is pure genius. I feel the track So What can turn an ordinary person into a jazz lover. Give it a listen.I don't know what I was listening to...I do know I am going to go hunting for CDs to burn to iTunes...
His work in the late 50's to early 60's was superlative. Look at his albums: 'Round About Midnight, Miles Ahead, Milestones, Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, and Someday My Prince Will Come.
Look for The Miles Davis Quintet, The Legendary Prestige Quintet Sessions. You can look up the provenance of these recordings for a lot of info. They include John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones. Unbelievable music.

One of my favorite jazz musicians and I second the recommendation for Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain.
I heard some Miles Davis music this weekend, and I loved it...it is like I was in a trance. I have no idea what song I was listening to, but I just loved it
Anyone else here a big fan of his?
Here is a piece of Miles trivia. Did you know he guested on an episode of "Miami Vice" before he passed? Pretty cool huh?
