Mad Men Season 2

Nine more days until season 2 of Mad Men starts on AMC! My wife and I are re-watching season 1, which is only making the wait for the start of season 2 more difficult.

I was just curious if anyone else is a fan of this show?

I am still waiting for either (a) the Sterling Cooper ad agency to have Gillette as a customer or (b) Don Drapper to have a shaving scene with his trusty Gillette and a Lucky Strike dangling from lip.

My wife and I are counting down the days, too. This show has beautiful sets and clothes-we can't wait!

Also, did you know that they have to shave the actors twice a day because some of the actors (especially Draper) look a little ragged by the afternoon?

Not sure if they shave the actresses twice a day.

Just got done watching a marathon yesterday (haven't watched all, but the rest are waiting on my DVR). This is a great show and it's so interesting to see the differences in values and behavior from then to now (smoking, drinking, kids without carseats/seatbelts, pregnant women smoking/drinking, male dominated workplaces/homes, etc.)
At first, it seemed so outlandish that it was almost cartoonish, but after thinking harder, I remember even in the 70s, when I was a kid, that much was like that. I remember climbing from seat to seat in the car, throwing fast food trash out the window (right before the crying Indian ads), and even at my first job in the 80s, some people still smoked at their desks.
Anyone older remember this era? How close is it the reality? I think my kids would watch this like it's all make-believe.

A friend told me about the show last week so I set my DVR up to record the Marathon they had on yesterday. I've heard good things so I am looking forward to watching.

It's funny to see how much the second season is being promoted. It is the best show that I've seen in a while. It's not just the clothing and the early 60s elements of style everywhere, it's the gender issues, the post WWII experience, the booming consumer economy. This show nails it in so many ways. I love it.

Mad Men is just the balm!

The whole early 60s vibe is right to the tee and they have it nailed.

The characters are interesting and the stories are great. Acting is superb.

The "Chip & Dip" scene was one of my favorites! They didn't mention the name "Lipton's" but you know what kind of onion soup mix they were talking about!

What a great show. I'm drooling until Sunday!:tongue_sm

Fantastic show . . . loved the first season.

Bang on and complex, rich, full storytelling. Amazing production values for television.

I watch TV so little I didn't even bother having cable hooked up when I bought my house this summer, but I'll have to find a way to either watch or get the season DVD direct from AMC as soon as it's available.

Dude they already did have Gillette as a customer! Don't you remember the episode where they were selling Gillette aerosol deodorant?!?

Yes the fiancee and I are really looking forward to season 2. We just watched the entire season 1 on "On Demand" the other week.

Ha, I started this thread before re-watching that particular episode ... and proceeded to have that internal "d'oh" moment.

Of course, they had to show the "new fangled" Gillette product instead of the tried and true SuperSpeed.

I only recalled since I watched them all last week. The interesting thing is I had watched a couple of episodes when it first aired on recommendation of a friend and didn't care much for it. When I saw it on the "On Demand" feature of our digital cable, I decided to watch the first episode and got hooked. Shortly after (halfway through the second episode) my fiancee was hooked as well.

That curvy redhead is something to behold.. and a lot to hold. What a woman! In the words of Sophia Loren on why she no longer did nude scenes, ".. because when Sophia Loren is naked, that's a whole lot of nakedness." :w00t: Today, women wear shorter skirts but I like the pencil dresses of yesteryear. :thumbup1: Oh yeah, and the show ain't that bad. I tried to watch the whole season on Sunday but I missed the marathon.

+1 Christina Hendricks is great eye candy, and the show is very well done.

The pencil dresses really do show off a woman's figure very nicely -- that is if you were a woman who had the built for them. Fortunately (or not for most women) the girdle was in it's hayday then.

I knew that name was familiar. She was in a couple episodes of "Firefly" - "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "Trash" - she played the character Saffron. I'm glad she landed a good, longer-lasting role.

+1 on the eye candy, but she's a good actress as well. Good looking bad actresses just make me tired.

I finished watching all 13 episodes. Great show. I am definitely going to watch tomorrow's premiere.

Few observations:
-- The writing is especially good. There are so many great lines.
-- As a 25 year-old, it's mind-blowing to see how subservient women were to men.
-- I knew this already but there really are a lot of unfulfilled wives out there. Husbands, watch out for the gardener and the poolboy!
-- Draper has some serious issues. He should be the one seeing a therapist.
-- Politcal correctness did not exist.
-- Alcohol consumption: As Roger states, his generation mostly drank because it tasted good and it was the manly thing to do. Don's generation drinks to drown its sorrows. I'm sure there were a lot of hard alcoholics out of that era.
-- Smoking: I know some people said that the smoking is exaggerated. I think it's an accurate depiction.
