L'Occitane Cade Rich Shaving Cream

Good Evening Gents,

I bought a pot of L'Occitane's fairly new shaving cream today, "Cade Rich", that the lady in the shop claimed had been specifically designed for use with a shaving brush.

I lathered a bit up this evening to get a feel for it and it is evident that with very little work, you can get yourself a very slick lather in no time. I live in central London where the water is hard - so hard that I have had little luck with soaps, even when using a boar brush.

I was able to get a decent lather this evening using a small amount of cream, as measured by the golden spoon that accompanies the pot (providing you ask for one!). Some pictures for your entertainment below.

Please note - my phone camera doesn't do any of the photos justice AND I am a face lather guy through and through so anything that I attempt to produce in my little make shift scuttle is only a small fraction of what some of you will be able to achieve.

Have posted the ingredients as well for those of you that are interested.

PS - Smells divine!!!!

PPS - Can't wait to give it a try at 6am tomorrow morning :wink2:

I'm actually going out today to see if I can get my hands on some! Thanks for the review and pics!!

Is this a new offering from L'Occitane? I love the smell of the Cade soap, but it dries out my face. Does it smell like the soap?

Not long after I made the post below I went and bought a tub. To my nose it smells more like the Cade shave cream in the tube and the aftershave balm than the soap. I don't get that wonderful Cade woodiness from it but it is still a great cream and it leaves my my face feeling great. Hope you'll like it Niko.

I received a sample during my last visit to my local L'Occitane. If you bring in a small container they'll usually fill it for you. The cream has a thicker consistency than the cream in the tube. The scent is nearly identical to the tube. I didn't detect much Cade scent at all but it still smelled good. It was very easy to build a nice lather from an almond sized dollop of cream. One the face it felt very slick and moisturizing. I had no trouble cutting to three days growth. Three passes later and my face felt fantastic. Followed up with their Eau de Baux balm and went about my day. Later that evening my face still felt great.

To me the new rich cream in the tub is a vast improvement over the old tube formulation. The tube was reformulated not to long ago and it too was improved. The tube formula I'm referring to is the one before the current formula. I could never get the lather to last with that formula.

I may pick up a tub of this new stuff the next time I visit the store. Now if they would just bring back my beloved Cade Aftershave Splash.

Sidenote, the sales clerk told me that the development of the new cream was a collaboration between L'Occitane and Plisson.

Bummer, the Cade soap is just divine.

Some say it's the same cream they've always had. I'm not sure. I can tell you that it doesn't smell like the soap.

I believe they are different. Here are the tube cream ingredients for comparison.

Aqua/Water/Eau (Water), Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Lauric Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) (Shea Butter), PEG 7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Perfume (Fragrance), Dimethicone, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Tetrasodium EDTA, Juniperus Oxycedrus Wood Oil, Bisabolol (L-Alpha), Fusanus Spicatus Wood Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract (Rosemary), Glycine Soja Oil (Soybean), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil (Rosemary), Helichrysum Italicum Extract, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Hydroxyisohexl 3 Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methlyproprional, Limonene, Citronellol, Coumarin, Hexylcinnamal, Alpha Methyl Ionone

I bought a pot of this a couple months back. I was so disappointed with it that I returned it. I couldn't stand the scent. I had the girl working at the store smell it when I returned it, and she totally understood why I was returning it. I thought it was a weird sorta feminine scent and nothing like the soap. I actually prefer the scent of the ASB to the soap, so I obviously didn't find the Rich SC to compare very well to the ASB either. The performance was okay, but it didn't seem very concentrated for something labeled "rich".

FTR - I've never use the old/tube Cade SC, so I can't make a comparison there.

Actually I think the cream has a more stronger smell than soap. It certainly is not their tube cream. Without bout different formulation!!

Gents

Gave it a spin this morning. Very very slick but I wouldn't call it 'rich'. I got 0 irritation with my 34c and gillette blues + my skin feels pretty great now. I may opt for face lathering tomorrow as I prefer to keep thinks quick and simple when I'm trying to get to work first thing.

Scent wise - I like it. It smells clean. However, it smells nothing like the soap with no woodsy elements whatsoever. I would certainly recommend smelling the tester before purchasing to avoid disappointment...

I agree with Nick_0. It was one if the first "expensive" creams I got when I started wet shaving. It lathers easily and I quiet like the smell. I just recently purchased the soap and the smells are different. Again YMMV as with everything else. For me it was well worth the investment. I'm waiting for a gap in the rotation to try and über lather with it and the soap combined.

Quick update 5 days on....

I have found this cream to be a lot better when lathered in a bowl. When lather directly from the tub onto the face, it is incredibly dense, almost too concentrated, whilst its powdery smell is a little overpowering...Even if I add quite a bit of water to the mix, it still isn't as slick as if I spent a minute or two lather in a bowl for which an almond sized amount makes 3-5 passes worth of lather.

Just an observation. I guess they don't call it "rich" for nothing...

I would be really interested to know how this cream compares their version in a tube (!) I've got a tube of Speick in the post on its way to me so no more acquisitions planned at present!!
