lighter razors - sharper blades?

Assuming the blade gap and exposures are similar with the heavier and lighter razors, does it make sense to use a sharper blade with a lighter razor (aluminum, titanium)? If not, is a bit more pressure needed for the lighter razor?

Sharper blade along with a bit of pressure has been a good formula for me when using lighter aluminum and titanium razors. Not a ton of pressure, just enough to replace the heft the razor would be lacking compared to its stainless steel counterpart. The real benefit of using lighter razors in my opinion is that you can also scale back on the amount of pressure you’re using at different points of your shave; when done correctly I’ve found that I’m able to reach a similar shave closeness to heavier razors but with little to no skin irritation.
Sharper blades help to combat the tugging sensation I’ve experienced due to the lighter razor not having the same momentum to push through hairs.

It's interesting that you brought this up. I recently acquired a couple of Schick Krona's to scratch the vintage itch. The first time I used the Krona, I used a Feather blade. That razor, as you can imagine, is really light, and the Feather, being the sharpest blade out there, I thought would have no issue mowing down my stuble. Disappointingly, I didn't feel like I got the best shave out of that razor and felt like I was having to apply more pressure than should be necessary to get a good shave.

On my second outing with that razor, I used a Bic CP. Still a sharp blade, but less so compared to the Feather. I felt like the razor glided across my face, and I definitely used less pressure to get a good result. Kinda counterintuitive huh?

I am unconvinced by this - I have razors of different weights and am not aware of applying different pressure for any of them, at least not because of their weight. When using a sharper blade, or a more aggressive razor I may use different pressure, but for a different weight razor, I say no. All other things being equal, I consider that the razor weight has no bearing on the blade selection. Must be one of those YMMV things 👍

So, does that mean a 10g razor would shave exactly the same as a 100g razor with the same geometry?
