What's new

Lets talk Creed.

You can buy samples from rorschuck here at B&B, www.badgerdecants.com, or from www.theperfumedcourt.com. As has been stated, check www.basenotes.net for reviews and details. Bois du Portugal is a fantastic scent, in my opinion.

+ 1 on the perfumedcourt.com

I wouldn't buy retail because in the past couple years there prices have skyrocketed and although I love Creed I wouldn't pay $250 for 4ounces when I can buy a authentic one at costco.com for $139.99. That is such a difference that you can buy a membership at costco for $50 and still save $60.

I remember my first bottle of Silver Mountain Water was $70 for 4 ounces online. Now it is almost double online.

Saks and Neiman Marcus in my area carry it so I try it there and then buy online or at costco.com.

To be perfectly honest, I've never understood the hooplah over Creed scents. I've tried several, and liked them. Its hard to make general statements about a house, but I'd call them all things like "pleasant", "short-lived", and definitely "expensive". So, I have no huge complaints, I just don't own any full bottles.

For what it is worth, to my nose the original Dunhill smells pretty close to vintage Tabarome. The same? No. But close enough that the $30 bottle of Dunhill makes the $300 flacon of Tabarome unnecessary.

For that matter, there are elements of Caron's le 3ème Homme and even Beene's Bowling Green that remind me of Bois du Portugal. I think that BdP is a much more aggressive fragrance, but I might just go with the Caron when my bottle of Creed runs out.

Has anyone here tried Guerlain's Heritage? I have not, but the reviews I've read say it closely resembles Bois du Portugal.

I have both, and frankly I wish I had a better-developed nose so I could explain the difference clearly.

To me the BdP is a richer, more 'sophisticated' scent. Heritage has a strong blast of spice that is not in BdP. I like that spice note a lot so I consider them different frags, not interchangeable.

is the original Dunhill still available?

Yes sir. I'd post a link to where I got mine but cannot remember where it came from. Perhaps one of the gents who knows more about these things will post a link. The packaging should look like:

I had a bottle of MI and of GIT about 5 years ago and that stuff lasted all day and I got compliments galore. Since then, I have never found a bottle that has the similar long lasting ability, though I still get compliments. Maybe my nose has grown too acccumstomed to it?

Anyway, at wife's urging, I got some GIT and our own Tbone2 had a bottle at a nice price, so I jumped at it. I hope this bottle lasts.
