Is MWF worth the price?

MWF is a fantastic shaving soap.
The bowl, well, it adds a bit of character and aesthetics.

Is it worth the extra money? If you are careful, and do not plan to drop it in the shower or off the sink (and if you like it) - buy one now.
You do not need it. In fact, I prefer MWF in a less precious and breakable jar!

I milled mine in to a 1c pyrex bowl with plastic closeable lid. Not quite as classy, but it sits in a drawer in my vanity. Made some fantastic lather this morning via the Marco method.

Try it. That's the only way to determine for certain. Worth is always highly subjective regardless of topic. Otherwise we'd all use the same soap, etc. You can poll you want but that only tells you popularity. Whether it's worth it to you is an entirely different matter despite what many seem to assume. There are plenty of threads and posts with opinions that you can read but reading won't get you to a decision. First hand experience will.

Shaving soap - especially a hard soap like MWF - lasts so long that the cost difference is in pennies per shave if that.

In for a penny, in for a pound. I always buy soaps with the bowl for the experience. I don't have MWF, but my Tabac, Harris and GFT soaps with bowls have yet to make me regret it.

Is that because you like the bowl? That seems to be the crucial aspect missing in this. Personally, I think the MWF is one of the most attractive decorative bowls. That's why I bought mine. But it's purely a matter of taste. Some people might like wooden bowls, or the Tabac bowl, or the Cade bowl, or the Czech & Speake bowl.

However, I could spend a whole lot less on a tub of razorock.

The comparison is not a good one...

I would advise the opposite. If you doubt it, why do it? If you have an open mind, that's fine. Then if you don't like it you can sell it on B/S/T. But having doubt is not an open mind, and spending money on something you're doubting is not something I would recommend.

It is great soap. Not my favorite scent. My lather with it is hit or miss due to pretty hard water. But even when my lather doesn't look perfect, the results are always the same. Very very good! leaves your skin feeling really soft.

I don't have the bowl, but I think it does look nice. But for the price, I like my cheapie Pyrex glass bowls.

I would never buy the bowl even if I did not face lather. The puck is $13 and well worth it.

I have the Kent version in a lovely wooden bowl and I STILL want the ceramic tub.

Why? 'cause I may hand it down one day and I know how devastated I am that my grandfather's gear was all "lost" when he passed. I regret that I dont have what I vaguely recall being a DE razor (maybe an SS?) of some kind that was all tossed out along with his Old Spice, his brush and soaps.

The bowls are hand made. Yes they are. They are not all the same size. I got a bowl and it was broken in shipping to me. A B&B member had a bowl with a broken lid so sent me his bowl. The lid I have is too big to fit on the replacement bowl. Looking at both bowls I see they are not formed they are hand thrown and irregular shaped. This blew me away...

If you don't like the soap, the ceramic bowl will make a cool place to put your pocket change, jellybeans, condoms, jewelry, and any illegal substances you may have lying around. It's a cool dish on its own. Is it worth $20? Maybe not, but definitely $10-$15.

The MWF bowl is a high-quality ceramic container with a nice heft to it. It makes a satisfying clink when you put the lid on. And the lid, of course, sports the distinctive Mitchell's Wool Fat legend. To me, this bowl is about quality, aesthetics, and brand loyalty. If one or more of these are meaningful to you, then the bowl is probably worth the extra few dollars. If not, there are plenty of cheaper options out there.

Or if, like me, you think the soap would be a great value at twice the price, then you can think of the bowl as a freebie.

MWF runs $13 a puck.

If you look you can occasionally find it cheaper.

I was basically saying if it would be worth it to pay more than $30 for a puck, because I would love to have the bowl, and it just seems TO ME that they have to be bought together. If you guys are saying it's not worth it though, I guess I'll think twice.

If this is a "thing" for you I can't help you. Lots of members have tried to help. If you really like Razorock you should use that.
