I want to restore this New the right way

I just bought this New Combed razor off Ebay. I love the look of vintage razors stripped down to the bare brass, but I want to make sure I do it the right way. There are so many opinions presented here and in other sites. My plan is to get down to the brass as safely as possible and then remove any scratches on the head by gradually going through various grades of sandpaper 320. 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2,000, polishing paste, Simichrome.

As far as eliminating the gold plating as easily and safely what is the accepted best method?

Brasso is pretty good at removing plating. Or just send it out for replating.
