What's new

I need a hat...

Rob... buddy... how to break this to you?..... no matter what your friends tell you, you do NOT look good in hot pink spandex. There, I've said it.

Are you kidding even if I wanted hot pink spandex you can't find them these days. Everywhere I go they tell me some Penguin in Connecticut is buying them all up.

So did you drop the whole hat idea?

There is a hat shop in Green Bay and I can't understand how they possibly stay in business. My wife barely tolerates the two hats that I occasionally wear. If I got a dress hat I think she would avoid being near me when wore it.

Yet I see the attraction. Hats look cool to us guys.

I'm not sure if the brim is too wide for you but I have one of these and it is a nice hat. Akubra Bogart.

I like that one - I've been considering it for this fall/winter.

No, I'll probably still pick up one but it will likely only be worn for things that my wife won't be present at.

I think that a large part of 'pulling off' a hat is to not really care what people think of it. You need to act as though the hat isn't there at all.

Looking back (and my wife strongly agrees), the best casual hat for me is a Stetson Open Road - yes, the famous LBJ hat although I look nothing like him, and I wear it with the brim snapped down all around. I wore one until my wife forced me to discard it (by buying me a new one and hiding the old one until she was sure I wouldn't implode), lost the second in a house fire. I need another, I've been wearing a Three Forks (sort of an Indiana Jones hat) and the weight of the felt and style just don't suit me as well.

But ... you have to make the commitment. When you decide, then make up your mind that you don't care if someone dislikes it ... and largely they won't. I wear bib overalls on occasion with my Three Forks, and only on one occasion did some one poke fun at me. It was at the Jeep garage, when I was negotiating for a major repair. She laughed, and I got the repair done at around half of what the next-best bid had been quoted while playing her supposed yokel to the hilt.

YMMV, though.

Highly recommend www.villagehatshop.com since I own a number of fedoras that I purchased from them. Best prices on the web, fast shipping, always received in excellent condition, HUGE selection, and occasional sales. I have a thing for nice hats and these guys have variety. No I'm not working for them, just one happy customer!

That site has some really nice and affordable hats. Several are on my short list to get. :thumbup1:
