What's new

I bought a 24 year old "Russian made" Gillette platinum and came to the gods to help me check its authenticity

I asked that the January Gillette Platinum should be the last batch, and the closure time of St. Petersburg should not be in October last year, but at the beginning of this year. Someone visited the factory in June and confirmed that it has indeed been closed and discontinued

And it is said that Gillette Platinum is laser marked, so there should be no counterfeit goods. As for the Astra produced in April this year, he said it is not necessarily because it is printed with ink and Astra has high sales and low prices, so there may be counterfeit goods

Curious, where are you getting all these last batch, plant closure rumors? As multiple other members posted, Russian blades are still being produced and there is no fear of shortage.

Pictures look fine, try them yourself and see if they are good.

If you normally use Gillette platinums, just try one out and you'll know if it's real or not.
A fake Gillette Platinum won't feel like a real one!

Another seller (not the one I bought Gillette Platinum from, another one) told me that his friend in Russia went to the factory in June and said it was already closed
As for the last batch, he said that the factory should have closed at the beginning of the year, so he judged that the batch produced in January on my hand was the last batch

I don't have any reference material on hand for comparison, and as a beginner, I don't think I can feel the difference in blades at the moment
It is said that the cost of laser marking blades on the market is high and there are no counterfeit products. Even small workshops do not have laser marking machines. Inkjet printed logos, especially those with high sales, should be careful

Yeah, I wouldn't take that seller's word on it.

I have a friend in America who has friends in Ukraine who told him that they can get an unlimited supply of Russian blades.

Ahem, where is @cranewarrior when we need him?😂

I was under the impression the laser marked blades were only produced for a short time and went back to ink.
The guy needs someone to tell him that everything is ok, not to add oil to his suspicions!

Gillette Platinums are laser marked as recent as 2022.

@Specter , your blades are fine, and you have chosen very well. Enjoy your shaves!

okay, thank you
There are several types of Gillette platinum, and currently blue background with white lettering (light blue, paper airplane) has been transferred from Russia to China for manufacturing, replacing laser marking with ink printing
And the white background with blue letters, there is no news of switching to Chinese manufacturing, and what I have in my hand is Russian made. Some of the Russian made Gillette series are laser marked

I wasn't trying to compound the situation, it was only an observation. I thought the laser etch was done in the late 20-teens for a short time. I would have to check my Gillettes for the dates and printing.

The blades look fine to me. If they shave well, don't worry about it.

Well, finally someone posted St. Petersburg blades manufactured in 2024.
But I am sure the fake rumours that the plant has been closed will continue for at least 3 more years. :facep:

To the original poster. All 3 blades that you posted are real blades. Not fakes.

24 indicates i.e., the year of manufacture i.e., the Gillette Platinum blades you purchased were manufactured this year on January 9, a recent production and therefore in the Gillette factory in China.
Do not mislead the original poster, please. Those blades are made in Russia, not China.
