What's new

I believe i figured out what "carry" gun i will get...

My decision is for a Springfield Armory Prodigy. Only other choice i have to make is, compact or the original size? But waiting for gun stores nearby to get the compact in has to happen first. The og Prodigy feels good in my hand and i shoot with it decently. No pictures or accuracy type stuff but from 5 yards to 25 yards i hit the ducks and other fun things on the paper target i used... so tiny yellow or pink ducks or tiny groups of balloons don't stand a chance at scaring me, robbing me or having fun with me... one pink duck got one in the eye... hahaha...

Now i just have to wait for my bank account to swell up enough so i can afford the Prodigy...

That's the 9mm 1911 format, yeah? I remember it came up in one of my shooting magazines a while back. Nice one.

Yes technically a 1911DS 9mm or if that one company didn't hog the designation it would be a 2011.

I like most guns and ammo. But 1911s prices have always, at least when i first started my obsession with guns, been higher to me or for me. Also i own a 9mm AR (AR-9 to me) that i pieced out the parts for and built. So 9mm is ammo i have a small stock pile of so for my bank account i wanted a 9mm more carryable gun. I believe if i go to a holster website i would see a holster for my 6" barrel AR-9 but that's not a gun i want to carry around under or over my clothes.

And thanks to double stack mags that are used in a 1911DS those pink ducks don't stand a chance if i have to spray and pray.... lol...

Plus 1911DSs including 1911s in general have more options to upgrade or tweak all parts of the guns like Glocks and P80s have and can be done. So i can eventually maybe tweak the Prodigy i get.

But 10mm keeps trying to weasel it's way into my carry gun wanting...

9mm has always been my carry, either in a Glock 19 or, if clothing requires a scale down, a Kahr CM-9.

Glocks will never win a beauty contest, but, I've put a few thousand rounds through mine without a hitch. I even went against everything I ever knew about firearms a year or two ago and didn't clean if for six months. Still flawless.

Check out BulkAmmo. I generally bought by the case for 9mm and .223 for the M&P (multiple cases, if I'm honest). I buy lesser quantities of .45 ACP (Glock 21), .357 (Ruger Blackhawk SA), .380 (Ruger LCP), and .44 (Colt Anaconda); BA is still the lowest cost I've found.

Very nice!😎

Most of the kinks, translating 9mm into the 1911 platform, are well worked out and I really, really, enjoy the caliber/platform combo.

FYI, a Tisas Duty Double Stack accepts the Prodigy grip. The fit & finish are excellent, stated as a former heavy investor in HK platforms.

Thank you for the site for ammo. I will take a look at it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? And nearly any gun is a beauty to me if it fires, is reliable and scares the crap out of other people. Glocks and 1911s have some very fanatical fans... lol...

I have been reading about compatability of 1911DS parts and was thinking about making my own 1911DS but i have not found a reliable to me source of used parts. I still learn and look for this stuff but with possibly getting back half the price of a handgun from the taxes i paid from my disability checks each month i started to look at the Prodigy online and in stores and i got kinda hooked into the Prodigy... lol...

Wet Blanket Here.

1500 for the gun
200 for 3 extra mags
300 for holsters and mag pouches.

2000.00 USD
300 min for a red dot sight and plate that is worthy of home defense

2300 all in. Perhaps a bit less i.e. 2100 ish paying cash across the board.

It is a mixed bag if the Prodigy is bet your life reliable out of the box relative to a Full sized Glock, S&W, Sig or H&K.

You could have a duty ready 9mm from the brands all in or less than half freeing up the rest for ammo and quality training. practice-training.

If you are dead set on a DS 1911, the Platypus (which takes Glock Mags) can be had for just a bit the the Prodigy and is widely regarded as much more reliable out of the box.

@dojpros i have been looking at handguns online and in person for a few years now. I have shot Glocks, Glock clones, Springfield Armory, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, SIG Sauer and 1911s by different manufacturers. Most of these handguns are my brother's friends guns.

All of the ones i shot, the Ruger was the only one that i did not feel comfortable with for too long in my hand/s.

And i know i can get 2 or more handguns for the price of a Prodig

@dojpros this post was deleted i thought. But i made my choice and i am confident in the Prodigy being my carry handgun....

Pretty gun. Never ran one myself but have admired from afar.

Springfield sometimes offers the Gear Up promotion, and depending on where you get it from, you’ll get a couple of extra mags, a range bag, and sometimes an optic.

I’m unsure if they will or have ever offered this promotion for the Prodigy. I picked up my Hellcat Pro with the Gear Up promotion and was out the door for under $600.

Keep your eyes open and you may run into a good deal for this one.

When i'm ready for my purchase i will check Springfield's website and ask the different gun stores around us if any rebates are going on or anthing else.

And ugly things like me can get a pretty somethings once in awhile, right?

Thank you for this reminder.

If still debating the compact, I would go compact because for me I'm more likely to carry it. Spilt between a Seecamp 32 and a Sig P365 but grab the Seecamp more often cause it's like an extra cell phone. Not one I want to put a couple hundred rounds through at the range but more stopping power than my yellow belt in karate from 30 years ago.

Well I am not trying to rain on you fire, but you better get up on laws in YOUR STATE about use of DEADLY FORCE, CCW, and then get to a Range and learn to use your firearm to SHOOT X's.

Last thing I will ad if you ever ever have to use your firearm for self defense, remember your action may go down in split second. But those judging your actions (Police, DA, Judge & Jury) have all the time in world to judge you actions.

Do you know difference between Concealment, and Cover. Can you RUN FAST out of Bad Situation, this is best thing to do if possible, get out of harms way asap.

Firearm is very very last resort, some places will jail you for removing firearm from holster, and brandishing it.

OT, but the Seecamp is juuust fine! I don't strap on my Roland special to get the grocery bag my wife left in the car. Seecamp .32 sits beside my wallet on the dresser.

@Gilf187 that is an interesting idea. And a gun size i never considered for myself.

@DesertIguana rain away... i now live in a different State that at least for buying and owning guns doesn't require a permission slip and things like suppressors are allowed to be owned. I have fallen behind on researching laws here. I got through most of the vehicle laws. I stopped after realizing the laws here are similar to where i used to live. And haven't looked past owning, buying and things like that of guns. I need to research the laws about self defense and all here soon, starting tomorrow.

"Can't Raise an Eyebrow"
The SA Prodigy is a beautiful gun and I'd love to have one, but not what I'd personally pick for a carry gun. The largest gun I sometimes CC is a Glock 19 and even that is too big unless I'm wearing bulky clothing. The gun I concealed carry the most is my SIG P365. I find it just about perfect for comfortable carry, adequate magazine capacity and very accurate. I shoot it as well or better than a full sized gun. YMMV greatly. I live in the deep south and it is warm/hot a good part of the year, so my CC guns must be comfortable to carry wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Your body type also may play a large role in what you can comfortably conceal. You should always carry at least one spare magazine no matter what your magazine capacity is, you need an extra mag to clear a malfunction. That is another thing to conceal comfortably. 21 round mags are great for range work but suck to conceal.

@nortac i have had opportunities to try on different guns and holsters. My brother's 2 friends and 1 of his employees have given me those opportunities to "try on" their carries. I also wear bigger clothes, pants and shorts i usually get are by letter sizing (L'XL) and number sized ones if i have a 36" waist 38" or when i was a 90s/00s skateboarder 40" or bigger waist when i was 33" waisted. T-shirts and the like if i'm L, i go XL long if that is available. And on me even an OWB holster with a competition style Glock, printed only a little bit.

I have only tried comfortability with my brother's Sig P365 and kydex AIWB holster. And other than the extra weight of the gun i hardly felt it was there.

The SA Prodigy has 2 models or sizes, the full size 4.25" and a compact 3.25" i believe. So i will have that choice to make as well. But the compact is starting to get ahead of it's bigger brother.

Im live in Arizona we are fairly firearms friendly as a State, but in all Counties with DA's who are not fans of Firearms ownership.

I now live in PA and i have to start looking into that kind of stuff. I know PA is some kind of other type of State like a Republic or something and cities like philthadelphia is an "A" rated city and the only city with that rating. And philth. politicians try to bypass State gun laws and atf rules constantly. And there are higher up politicians that back and try to write gun laws against our Rights. So i will hopefully learn a lot in the weeks ahead.
