Hurricane Irene and our beloved East Coast area B & B member safety. Please stay safe

I will probably lose my electric power soon so I want to post this now. Please follow all safety evacuation rules from your state and county advisers. Do what they say to stay safe from this Hurricane Irene that may be destructive. Your livelihood is more important than anything else. STAY SAFE PLEASE:001_smile On a Razor side note...(the last time a hurricane hit us in Atlantic city was the year 1903 , Gillette introduced the Old Type design in 1903 with the first Double Ring safety razor, and continued to produce variants until 1929.)

We've just started to get the rain up here outside DC a few hours ago. The real fun's not supposed to start until later tonight.

First the earthquake and now this? Don't know how much more my lawn furniture can take.

I hope you and your furniture stay out of harms way.

The l place I lived in that got the amount of rain we're expecting in CT was northern CA. The resulting flooding broke through the levees downstream on the Sacramento River and flooded the entire city of Marysville. There are few levees along the Connecticut River, so the situation here could be as bad or worse.

Jim , don't you live near the shore line?

Where I live, we don't get weather like this. Too far north. The next county over is in a different weather service region and they can't be put under a tropical storm warning because they're so far north they don't install the software to do so. No lie. Got my lawn furniture inside. Garbage pail secure. 18 rolls of toilet paper. 200 de razor blades in a safe convenient place of I have to leave quickly.. I'm set.

The rain is just showed up here about an hour ago. The worst is said to be tomorrow morning between 4 and 8 am.

I'm glad that I am a bit inland.

Good luck to those of you on the coast.

Really? You must be near the hill top/mountains the. Also, 18 rolls of toilet paper? What did you eat.:confused1:scared:

You are lucky, I am going to move near you within next few months to Lebanon, PA, not too far from your location. Do you experience bad blizzards in winter?

I am in the Lehigh Valley and live about 3 miles from the NJ border. We are typically about 5-8F cooler then Philadelphia temps during the winter. We do get snow, but not considerably more then Philadelphia. A few of the rainstorms you have down your way will be snow up here, but it doesn't typically stick around all to long. I grew up near Syracuse so the snow we have here doesn't really compare. What sucks about this location is that it is often 34F and raining during the winter. When the sun goes down, everything freezes and makes travel pretty miserable. I would rather deal with a foot of snow then a quarter inch of ice.

Wow, that sucks, I too prefer snow than ice, it makes driving a nightmare. I drove tractor trailers to the
Lehigh Valley a few years ago, I love the beautiful hills and mountains along the highway. They have houses built on the side of mountains, it looks beautiful. I drove into tunnels that had these bright futuristic lights inside, it was scary 1 lane passage. The river is beautiful too, very long and expansive. I will move up there before the holidays. I hope it's a nice winter like last year.

Yes. I live on a pretty big hill, so I'm not very concerned about flooding here. Getting into any of the surrounding towns, which are near the level of Long Island Sound will be a challenge for a few days, I fear. We're well prepared here for a week or so. The only real issue for me is that D-cell batteries for my emergency radio were impossible to find for miles around. I estimate I only have power for about 40 hours' use.

Thanks for creating this thread, Alex.

You are welcome, Jim I would invest in this radio that works on rewinding/recharge, Kaito Voyager KA500 Solar/Crank AM/FM/SW NOAA Weather Emergency Radio...I will include a link. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...9x00001a&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=SPM2738394202
