Help: Simpson Synthetic Brush Sizes

I recently acquired at Simpson Trafalgar T2 synthetic, and now I'd like a bigger Simpson brush for my collection. (I am mostly a bowl latherer.) By large, I mean the size of the bristles and loft, and that it feels large on the face.

So far, I am liking the Platinum Rover and the Chubby 2 synthetics, but I am trying to image the size difference between the Rover and Chubby compared to the T2. Are the bristles of the Rover and Chubby larger?

Also what is the largest Simpson synthetic in face feel?

Yeah, I don't think they got the memo about smart pricing based on customer cost. Not the only small business to make that mistake. They must not know how.

Well Simpson sells their Brushes to the world, so they are not going away.

Buying direct if your in USA is not cost effective.

Shipping to USA is too high.

Indeed. Status quo bias is another problem driving inertia and suboptimal profitability at a lot of small businesses, especially successful small businesses.

From a customer cost perspective, if Simpson were to add "free" shipping to US and Canada addresses at 200-300 GBP, and increase brush prices ~5% to offset their cost, for example, I bet they would increase revenue and profits.

Simpson has always been treated (by itself and others) as a premium brand and priced accordingly. They sell lots of brushes and know what they’re doing.

Back to the OP’s question. I have both the Chubby 2 and Rover synthetic. CH2 is 5+ years old at this point and the Rover less than 2. From a face feel perspective, the CH2 feels bigger and more luxurious on the face and not just because of the larger knot. It has a higher loft than the Rover and splays more. I’m not a big fan of the Rover because it just feels too compact on the face due to lower loft and a dense knot.

The synthetics come in at a lower price point than the badgers, so you can probably get a more economical brush (I know, fellas, I know. It’s all relative) from Simpson directly. I suggest you contact customer service and inquire about a custom. Mark and crew are good people to work with. For example, several years ago, I asked after a brush that had been a limited run for them about 5 years previous and they were kind enough to make me up a new one from the handles that had been turned but not sold.

I agree with asking about a custom. Simpsons have made me a few and they are more reasonable in price than I thought.

@helicopter when they strip out the 20% VAT it usually covers their shipping cost in my experience.

Yeah, that's true. Even so, it would be better if they accounted for VAT in the pricing customers see, along with shipping. Local currency would be a nice touch, too.

Simpson is a great company with a great products that are highly successful. Still, the website and pricing could be improved, and if they were better, customers would like them even more and they would be even more successful. The status quo isn't something that makes me dislike them or their direct sold special brushes, but that doesn't mean they aren't leaving money on the table.

Thank you for your information! I am thinking the Chubby 2 synthetic now (as I love the iconic design too). I have a $100 Amazon card from Christmas and I'm trying to find a new brush. I wish I could order directly from Simson though, I like the idea for a custom because I love the butterscotch color.

I am curious to learn whether that would be the great Eagle G3?

Would this 24 mm Captain be of interest: Captain 2 Platinum Fibre Copper Ice - https://www.simpsonshavingbrushes.com/store/SALE/platinum-synthetic-fibre/captain-2-platinum-fibre-copper-ice

I think the Captain is a fantastic brush, in fact underrated.
I have it in Manchurian, quite a wall of badger in my book.

Or as an alternative, 22mm but a true classic and robust face feel: Special Edition M7 Platinum Fibre Tortoiseshell - https://www.simpsonshavingbrushes.com/store/SALE/platinum-synthetic-fibre/m7-platinum-fibre-faux-tortoiseshell
I have this in various knots, with the synthetics (of earlier batches) felling a bit more contained than the badger variations.
