What's new

Greetings from Georgia

Hello all! I've been lurking for a couple of weeks while playing with my DE. Once the blood stopped pouring and things started getting smoother, I decided to join the discussion. I've learned quite a bit but haven't been able to say thank you yet, so...thanks everyone!

Current setup: (used but free) Viking Godfather to be returned to original owner, a (used but free) God-awful synthetic brush that reminds me of a cheap paint brush that wasn't cleaned that will find the trash once updated, Clubman Shave Soap, and Clubman Whiskey Woods and Original AS.

On the way: Maggard MR18 with a V3A head, Maggard black resin synthetic brush, sample pack of blades, and Proraso Sandlewood with shave butter soap.

Testing the waters for now, finding out what I like and what I don't. The wife doesn't like the aftershaves which is heartbreaking. I'd love recommendations but it's going to be hard to give up my Clubman, even if the wife continues to glare at me when I splash it on.

Welcome to the conversation.

You're not the only Georgian here. I live a mile or so from Amen Corner.

I'm sure you can find scents which will please your wife (and you, of course). One of my favorites, not that I use scents much, is a Coconut Bay Rum which reminds me of the beach. I enjoyed it very much on Christmas Eve.

The company which sells the product has a great many reasonably priced and interesting aftershaves. Some people don't like the owner of the company but I like his splashes and some of his other products.

Scents are very subjective of course. Meaning you might not like anything I like. Scents are also not required. Mostly I don't use them (currently), but I have plenty when I have a hankering for 'em.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Welcome. You have all you need right now but, I’m sure that you will fall down the rabbit hole like the rest of us.
I’m enjoying my new morning routine with what I have and I look forward to the items I have ordered to get me one step deeper into this world.
From what I have seen it is a deep rabbit hole so I plan on taking it slow for the time being.
Happy shaving!

I’m tucked away up in the northeast corner but The Masters is watched religiously here and makes me feel like Augusta is the place to be.

I am ready to try new scents but I’m hesitant to start until I’m towards the bottom of my current bottles. Room for a collection is something I do not have. I appreciate the recommendation and will be putting that on my list. Thank you!

Augusta has its points for sure.

I thought SWMBO objected, strongly, to your current splash.

Good for you emptying the bottle before buying more. Collecting is to be resisted at all costs.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Don’t get me wrong, she does. There is a bottle of Aqua Velva and Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum collecting dust from my cartridge days. Those were a “hard no” from her. The current rotation is tolerable and my favorites but finding something that pleases us both would be ideal. Happy wife, happy life as they say.

I see sample scents in my future to get it dialed in.

Welcome! You are certainly blessed to be in Georgia. My folks, well, down to just my mom, are in Dallas, with family in Kennesaw and the surrounding area. I love spending time there, especially if I can explore the mountains.
You are correct. I have lived in various areas of the country but always end up back home in Georgia. There is always something to do around here and plenty more if you enjoy the outdoors.

She isn’t big on scents but I am. Ordering samples may be the smartest route for me at this point.

Some malls and outlet malls have fragrance stores which let you sample their wares. I've only been to one, an outlet mall store. While there I tried numerous scents, none of which were aftershaves, and bought some, stuff I'd call men's perfumes although that might be technically incorrect. However, it might be a place for your wife to help you discover what she likes.

Sample from the vendors are good, too, of course.

Check this out & these sample offerings. I have tried a good many of his scents and liked most of them. I also like, appreciate, and kinda sorta understand his scent descriptions. (Many scent descriptions make no sense at all to me.) Unlike many guys I enjoy his somewhat over the top advertising copy as I think it conveys the mood of the scents.

Good luck pleasing both yourself and SWMBO.

Thanks, Jim. Without you mentioning that brand, it hasn’t come across my radar before. Once my collection shrinks down or I find a friend to donate to, I’ll get some samples on order.

Thank you, sir!
