Great Grandfathers Rig

My granny gave me this years ago and I found it while cleaning out some stuff. It was her father’s. The box is in pretty bad shape and the razor needs some love. I can’t find too much information on it. Thought it was neat. I may get around to restoring it one day (if possible) and pass it down to someone else in the family.

That's a great looking razor and a nice keepsake.

While the edge is out of shape, it can be brought back by a pro. You can have the blade polished and honed and it would look great displayed in your house somewhere. Or learn how to use it. That would be best, but that would be a commitment.

As far as the brand, it's not overly important. George was probably a small distributor in the US that had his razors made in Germany and imported. There were a lot of those guys.

I think that's the plan. I don't see myself using it. Still battling the intricacies of the DE razor.

I wish I had my great grandfather’s razor.
I got lucky with this one. Also have a pair of his old overalls. Might make a shadow box with these things and hand it off to my dad for father's day this year. They were very close.

It's a rebranded Bartmann razor.
Interesting. I'll have to look into that. Thank you!

There are actually a large number of types of straight razors,
made in Germany for American retailers
and all of the ones that I am familiar with
are really good.

One of the razors in my rotation was made in Germany for a single hardware store in Binghamton NY.
The tang stamp has Binghamton spelled correctly.
The box says "Binghampton", which is one of the more common American misspellings for that city.

It's always nice to have a little more history on these "artifacts" in my family. Thank you!
