Got a bit heavy handed with the menthol this morning...

I got a new bottle of Clubman Bay Rum and because it's a 12oz bottle vs my normal 6oz I added what I thought was about double the amount of menthol crystals to it last week so they could dissolve. This morning I went to use it for the first time and immediately thought OOPS!

Eyes immediately started to water and skin felt like I just dunked my hands and head into a bucket of ice. Made for a very fun morning. About 1hr later I can still feel the residual effects and have what would have been my original goal of feeling on my skin. Guess I'll have to buy another bottle just to dilute down, but figure if anybody needs a good laugh here you go.

I know I'm not the only one who has fallen victim to this trap after googling menthol removal methods and immediately seeing results for our forum!

Too much of a good thing? I was never a fan of menthol but have come to enjoy its cooling freshness in a few quality soaps I’m using. Hope you get it to the correct ratio for desired effect.

I've done the exact same thing with menthol AND with added glycerin (you get a slimy face that way).

I think it can be somewhat random for me. I recently used menthol stirling almond cream and it felt like my face was on fire. It wasn’t the super menthol version and I’ve used it before. (Months ago)
So how much of the crystals did you add? I wonder what a second use feels like.

I put maybe 5-6 reasonable sized crystals? I was able to poke them through the little pour hole on Clubman bottles so they couldn't have been that large but apparently it was enough. I have a microgram scale so I'll start measuring them precisely if I think about it and see if I can scientifically get a reliable ratio I like.

I also have a tiny dropper bottle with a random amount of crystals and alcohol I use to put a few drops into a lather bowl when I want mentholated soap and usually 4 drops is plenty, and I can definitely feel the difference between 4 drops and 6 so it's a very small concentrated window

Well I pull out the little restriction thing and I usually add the crystals with a teaspoon.
So I’m thinking I’m adding way more than you
