First badger brush purchase inquiry

Hello all,

Just recently created account, but have following posts since starting Trad Wet Shaving since 2023.

I currently have multiple synthetic brushes(G5A/G5C/G4/Omega High brush). I've been researching badger brushes, but I have been hesitant since I'm allergic to cat hair/rats/mice (no just dander per allergy test). But I would like to try one out just in case I am not.

I'm not a "back bone" junkie! :). I prefer splaying and flow-though over "super-dense", where the soap isn't trapped in the knot (Like my G5A).

I also like the look of wooden handles... I've been looking at Olive-wood based handles and saw the following 6832 Omega Super Badger Shave Brush. I haven't found much info or reviews on it, so I thought I would post a query here. I'm not one for the "scritch"....

Any thoughts?

Thank you and regards,

Bob

I got this Boar brush. It fits your needs, inexpensive to try, nice wooden handle and I think it is a fine brush now that it is well broken in. I haven’t used other boar brushes, so what do I know, but I like it.

Aside from the animal hair allergy, I’m in the same boat as you OP in regards to what I like in a brush.

I may be mistaken, but it seems that the higher “grade” of badger hair, the less the scritch? Ideally you would look for silvertip. And preferably 3 band over 2 band as that would be less backbone and more splay.

I’m aware Yaqi offers silver tip badger at around 30 USD, but from what I’ve heard it has heavy chemical processing. I wonder if this processing may hide whether you are allergic to badger hair or not. Perhaps it would be a good idea to search for a minimally treated badger brush. Best of luck.

Hello all, Thank you all for your advise. I have thought about purchasing one to just to test and find out. Sell it if I discover allergic reaction... @Jamolay, that's a nice looking boar brush, I may have to look into that!

Also to note, I am a bowl lather that has croaps/hard soaps/creams.

If my post alluded that I did not like synthetics, that is not the case at all. I may create some other posts regarding other synths as to not distract from this post.

Plus, my wife will get annoyed at me if I can anymore brushes... LOL...

I would try a Semogue 2015 over anything from Omegas badger lineup.

Or just get a DSCosmetic Super Badger brush to see if it suits you.

Hi all, sorry for the late reply. Thank you all for your responses and ideas.

Anyways, I purchase the RE Best Badger today since they had 15% off sale today. Once I receive and try it out for a little bit. May have to go off Allergy meds for a couple days to find out. Will post back on results.
