Fast Dulling

Probably a bad temper if you are a competent honer and he is a competent shaver and stropper. Evidence of a bad temper can easily be removed on a buffing wheel, the only way you'll find out is when you hone it, either it just wont take an edge, or it won't keep it. Sounds like yours won't keep the edge...bad temper is my feeling.

Alfredo and Jared,

I have used steel wool to clean up razor. It was NOS razor, both razors when I bought them. Both were in original package (case) wrapped in paper with protective oil. This slight blade ware is from honing done by "honemasters". You right, there was some slight corrosion EVEN it was a NOS. I think it is from scale material or some other factor. Talcum powder... it is me. I use talcum to make sure my razor are dry after shaving. In fact most of the time only blade shaving part is little wet, which later is dip into talcum powder for few minutes and wiped off using paper towel. File marks, me too... if you notice scale is warp and I had to correct blade without re-pining. When used ballpoint hammer I have slightly damaged pin anyway. I was trying to tighten pin and correct blade position at the same time . Later used small file to polish pin.

BTW, I had no idea that Jared and Alfredo will be here:) LOL

Edit: But, uh... what's with the scented talcum powder that was between the scales? My first thought when I saw the white powder there was that someone had used the razor for lines of cocaine. :tongue_sm Also, if the talcum powder isn't from you, that's a fairly good indication that the razor wasn't NOS. There are also some file marks at the butt end of the scales
Good eye/nose

Al... if you want after you hone it up again ship it to me and lemme take a peek at it....
I might do that if after the rehone-shave same thing happens. But if it does it might be the steel.

I would suggest the silicon sleeves from the superior shave.

I have used them since I started straight shaving and have never had any problems.
It's a small internets.
True, specially if you are looking at shaving forums

My bet is wire/false edge.

With a 5 nagura Jnat progression it is easy to overdo it. I have done it a lot of times, and the simptoms match my findings. Passes HHT, looks fine under magnification, and starts to pull after a few passes. I don't think anyone can dull a razor with good steel this fast, even with the worst technique ever.

Bad tempering is the least likely in my opinion, be it nos or not.

Interesting, I have never done it on any of my razors. Basically used the same technique.

My grand, grandfather use to say.... "You live, you learn and you think you know all, but when you are in last minutes of your life, you realizing that you are dumb like a brick and life was to short to understand this"

Alfredo I think it just happen, we all have "the first time" so now worries. However I would like to thank you, Jarod for taking me into B&B and helping me on this case. It is interesting post.
