Does presentation matter?

I was looking at Wolfman razors. Based on their price list, they range from ~$500 to ~$2,000.

I then came across this (pictures taken online):

Bubble wrapped in a generic cheap carton box?

Granted that what's inside matters more than what's outside, does presentation matter to you?

I appreciate a nice presentation box. Just look at OliWorks box. I think that's the nicest "box" I've seen any razor come in. Then Lambda's wooden boxes are great and super durable. BUT ............

How much do those fancy presentation boxes cost? I'd say a pretty penny which affects the price of the razor. For me those presentation boxes, once the razor is removed, just sit in a drawer.

If I'm being honest, presentation doesn't matter to me at all.

I do care about function though, like how sturdy the box is, if it's wrapped securely, if it comes with something to put small parts in, etc.

But appearance or novelty, no.

I suppose if something is done exceptionally well I notice it as such, but I'm never disappointed if not, as long as it's packaged well functionally speaking.

Presentation doesn’t matter to me beyond protecting the razor in shipping. I certainly don’t want boxes that clutter my home but are too nice to feel good about throwing away. I was happy with the Lambda wooden box, but as an exception and only because the razor is uniquely good.

I’d like it if razor manufacturers started including a razor pouch. That wouldn’t take up space and it’d be a practical way to keep the razor nice in storage and when travelling. That would add value for me, if they are decently nice and not too expensive. But not boxes.

Depends on the price point, but yes I do think presentation matters to stay competitive with razors in the same price tier. As the price goes up, it becomes easier to knock competition if they aren't at parity.

To echo the points above, I would rather see high quality pouches and head protectors for travel. something like that would be much more useful after point of sale.

I want all the money to go into the razor, not the presentation. Make sure the razor gets to me safely, sure, but that's it. Ever other penny should go into how the razor performs.

This makes me think of the innumerable unboxing videos on YouTube. Be it shaving equipment or electronics - I couldn't care less about the unboxing - how well does it work?

It only matters if you want to show it off online in an unboxing video or photos.

Unless you are shaving with the box, who cares?

Fancy box, price goes up even more.

It's not about showing it off.

Nobody needs a $500-$2K razor to shave. It's a luxury product and it should come with, at least, an above average presentation. Look at Timeless, Blackland, and others. They cost a fraction and come with a proper box.

@gdawg55 mentionned Rocnel. I doubt that a similar box would increase the price of Woflman razors.

If you say so.

I still say No.

For me the Wolfman cardboard box is simply packaging for posting the razor and as such has little or no value. I cannot believe it is intended as a storage or display case, so I regard the Wolfman as being supplied without one. The Lambda wooden box I regard as a storage case and as such for me it would have value. I prefer to keep my razors in a case between uses and the amount I value the case depends on the case quality, and to a lesser degree the rarity. To use vintage Gillette razors as an example, I would value highly a nice condition matching case for a Single Ring or a New, the case for a Red Tip or a standard 195 Adjustable would have less value to me as they are plastic. I am not a collector but those who are seem to value cases quite highly.

If you want it, buy it. If you don't, don't.

I'm not in the market for a Lamborghini, so I don't really care if it comes wrapped in a bow with gold flake or not.

Presentation boxes are nice, I guess. What I mean is, I like the idea of them. Maybe if it was my only razor, or if I had a display case for all of them. But in reality, my straight razors live in repurposed fountain pen cases, and my safety razors live in a drawer in the bathroom. So I'm not particularly swayed by the presence of a purpose made case one way or the other. Seeing a razor securely packaged for shipping warms my heart, though.
