What's new

Do you ever really regret not putting in a bid?

I'm currently looking for a old type and a NEW of sorts to try out. That of course means having fun on ebay (I actually really like scouring ebay for deals!) A bunch of razors go for over my price range, but occasionally one flies under the radar, and I usually try to get those. These two razors are ones that I really really should have bid on, but I never did, as I assumed that the prices would fly upward. Well, they didn't, and I missed out. Regret.

Both are cased razors, in excellent condition:

Old type: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110650247540&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I'm especially mad about that old type, that went for quite cheap. Then again, there wasn't a pic of the head of the razor.

You have no way of knowing what the winning bidder's limit was.

Keep bidding what you're comfortable with and you'll score something eventually.

lol. I actually won that second one. Never expected to win... and that was my max bid. I had just entered the starting bid price several days ago and decided not to bid again.

Not knowing that their max bid could have been high is comforting, but there is still always that chance...

Well it's good to know that the Old Type went to a member here! It's in good hands. Well done, you did what I should have! :001_tongu

More razors will come and go.
They're a hot collectible right now. People are looking for them.
Hit the flea markets and antique stores.
Anywhere and everywhere you go.

I've got a huge watch list that I usually forget about until it's too late.

You can always send it to me!

I was watching this one. 99 cents with two minutes to go, went to $10.45  which is pretty high IMHO, you can't even see the head...

I was actually watching that one myself! I was also confused as to how high it went. :001_huh: You could have the one that I posted earlier for less.

It's things like that make ebay so unpredictable. It seems like if a razor starts at 0.99 cents, it will go up, because many people watch it due to it having such a low starting bid. But those razors that start around $5 sometimes get missed...

I regret not bidding high enough on a few I lost. Like the bell end Aristocrat in the French ivory case. That one was sweet.

Usually, if I am outbid on my max or don't pull the trigger because the asking price is too steep, I don't regret it later. There are other fish in the sea.

Then again, I am not scouring eBay for really rare items.

Oh, I have done that! And a couple of times I spent an hour pounding my head against a wall for not putting in a bid...

Know that one. I failed so many times on a few hard to get ones, that I finally would just put down a pile o' cash. And then I would end up getting it for less then what they were going for. I got a nice Flare tip Aristocrat, just missing one blade case. :001_smile

But many other times I would be taken right to my last dollar. I win the item, but somehow I don't feel quite so happy. :biggrin1:

Razors are one of the few items I look for frequently on eBay that still go in pure auction. Most of the other items I watch for are BUY-IT-NOW auction (with or without MAKE AN OFFER), or straight fixed-price non-auction. This holds for shoes, suits, computer equipment, camera equipment, etc... I'd say less than 10% of my eBay buying these days is actual bidding, and it's not just because I'm impatient.

Yes I have. Then there is the matter of bidding way too high because right then I just had to have it. Thankfully I had time to think it over and lost all of those.

+1 and same here

I do occasionally regret not putting in a bid though.
Questionable judgement has made me miss out on more than a few unbelievable deals.
Gotta work on my believing skills I guess.

I was watching that one as well. Wow, really though? It didn't sell the first time? Well that is really surprising. I hate missing out on such deals. :glare:

It was only up for two and a half hours. Looks like he ended it and relisted. There was an error in the original, saying that it had no markings, indicating it was early 1904. The revised listing says that it indicates early 1900s.
It shows that there were no bids placed, so I'm not sure why he didn't just revise it.

Right now, I regret bidding. In the last two days I've won 7 razors. :blushing: Looks like I'll be cleaning them up and posting some on the B/S/T forum.
